OK Chantal, Maybe scary was a bit harsh.

What I meant was frighteningly knowledgable!

People who have that opinion are probably the type who are going to be getting excited by this football thing that is apparently coming up. Personally, I find watching my courgettes growing a whole lot more interesting! And I'm nowhere near retiring either!

Maybe it's because everyone on here is really scary! I was too shy (lol) to post for ages and lurked in the background. Then I realised that I must be as mad as everyone else to keep coming back! Once you realise that people don't (always) jump down your throat for asking or saying something silly o...

Beccy, you are right in some cases but not in general. Dioxins are produced when burning plastics that contain chloride, such as PVC. Most other plastics are non-chlorinated and therefore will not produce dioxins. There are numerous other unwanted byproducts of burning though so still wouldn't recom...

"Plastics" covered a wide range of polymeric materials and each type of plastic material will produce different decomposition products, so it is really not easy to give you an accurate assessment of the dangers. The idea that it is safe to burn plastics is, to some extent, true and can be ...

Just imagine, strolling through the garden in the early morning, the aroma of freshly fried slug in the air...

I've seen the same problem. I'm not sure what the weed is but there's loads of the bleedin' stuff in my garden! A couple of years ago I thought I'd got a magnificent crop of carrots coming through, then realised that they were also amongst the beans, between the sweetcorn, in the flower beds... The ...

Mine have suffered too!

Maybe it's my memory failing but I don't remember them doing this last year. They seem to picking up a bit though, there's some nice green growth and a hint of fruit on some of them.

Just got to keep the slugs away now....

Nog,
It's not clear on the packs/labels but they refer you to the website for full terms & conditions. It says there that bulk applications will not be accepted.
Maybe they'll not consider a few as bulk but you're probably pushing your luck with 20!

The cuttings may be small but for the price of a stamp, they're well worth it! I've got 5 of these in the ground already, another 3 labels sent off, and a couple more ready to go - the benefits of having a small person around! Anyway, for info, the variety is Ben Hope. They claim that "This var...

Poking around

I planted 6 Butternut seeds, 1 of which came through after a few days. Like others before me, I too grew impatient with the rest and had a bit of a poke around. Three days later, up pop another 4! Encouraged by this, I tried the same technique with some reluctant pumpkins and it worked again. Has an...

Don't worry too much about the glossy finish on cardboard - it's clay based so it is quite compatable with gardening. As for the inks, it probably depends on just how "O" (shhh!) you want to be, but as far as I can tell, most cardboard is fine for composting unless it's waxed, which some f...
