Re: Christmas Card
Thanks, Tiger. All the best to you too! :D And everyone else, of course. Sadly, I'm not gardening anything right now. Too many house moves, depression, arguments with employers, and now spouse, wrong season, no idea what happened to my hydroponics system. Dunno if I belong here, but I really like th...

Spam - not happy
I reported a spam posting gawd knows how long ago but that spam posting is still there. I do realise that we don't seem to have half a dozen active mods, only Peter - and there's only so much he can do. But I beg you don't let this be the thin end of the wedge. If this becomes a board where spam is ...

Re: Bacon Naan
Bacon naan is a terrific idea - in theory. You get a naan, ie flat bread, and fill it with various things, including bacon. What's not to like? But I didn't like it. I really thought I could DIY it better. £20+ and delivery, nah. I could go to Asda with a tenner in my pocket and come home and make s...

Re: Pop-ups
Hi Primrose. Nah, there's not a lot of passing traffic but if I need help we can do leafletting. Normally there'd be quite a lot of students but I expect they'll have gone home for the Christmas holidays. But that still leaves me with quite a few elderly people and those who can't/don't cook. I'd no...

Pop-ups
I'm thinking of doing a pop-up of soups just before Christmas. Either I'll try for it in our front garden or I'll bribe the next-door neighbour (probably with soup :D ). He has a bigger and barer garden. Purchasers could eat there and then, or take home. I'd need to do the costings but soup is cheap...

Retro Food
The Prawn Cocktail Years by Bareham and Hopkinson is an excellent book, but relatively expensive and not so easy to find new these days. Even the updated version on Kindle costs £12.99. Obviously prawn cocktail is the first to come to mind. I don't care if it's retro, I like it and any time...

Re: What's everyone having for Christmas?
Hey, Westi. I was just about to post this exact same topic but you beat me to it. We're not traditionalists, and there's only two of us, neither of whom are very keen on turkey. So, we've not had turkey for many years and even then generally only when we have several guests for the main meal. Quite ...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
Barney, I hope your sheep are OK. It reminded me of a time when my parents and I were out in the country. My dad spotted a sheep stuck on a barbed wire fence. He stopped the car and went to release it. Even so, the sheep wasn't 100% well, so he then went to the farmhouse to explain the situation. Th...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
Sorry to hear about your friends, OH. That's another problem of getting older. Losing loved ones. I have very few left. The one positive I can think of is having a nice relationship with those few who are left. On one side of the family there's only my cousin and me left. (He goes to the gym and is ...

Why do so many people behave like complete sh!ts these days? It's like it's the norm to behave badly. We officially moved out of the rented flat and handed back the keys a month ago. We didn't do any damage, nor did we steal anything and we left the place clean. The lettings agent didn't even come t...

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.
It's lunchtime and it's already so dark here I'll have to put on the lights. :( We live half-way up a steep hill so I don't expect to have flooding problems. But you never know what might happen next in these days of uncertain times. I've got loads of kitchen chores to do so I suppose I'd better get...

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.
Beautiful blue sky here (in Kent) and some lovely white big-big puffy clouds. The clouds are very low down, way below the horizon. I've no idea if that means anything. But it's nice to see a blue sky for a change.

Re: Death list
After I left the army in 19oatcake (mid 70s probably), it wasn't easy to find a job. But I found employment as a 'care assistant' in an eventide home. No idea why. I had no qualifications or experience for that job. It certainly didn't suit my personality. I didn't like most of the people and hated ...

Apparently His Lordship was delighted with the butteries. He lives on the West Coast and it's unusual to get butteries outside the North East (of Scotland). I think my usual recipe might be from the Hairy Bikers "Food Tour of Britain" book, which I couldn't find in the house. Maybe it's st...

Re: Exploring Cream Coffee
It's not just about surviving being brought home. We love Oriental food, especially Thai and Korean, but it's not easy to get authentic ingredients where we live. Sure, the supermarkets sell bottles of this and jars of that but there's a lot more to the cuisines than that. We generally go to Wing Yi...
