Being able to get out to the plot at all with two children under two, considering I had number two in June. place is heavily covered in weeds in some places, but I'm still working away, loving every moment I manage to steal to get out there. But veg-wise, my peas!! Usually they get eaten by pea beet...

I use an old pair of Doc Martin's but they're getting a bit worn in the uppers, but the soles last forever. Need some new inbetween the house and plot shoes, had a pair of cheap cloggies, so am keeping an eye out for them. They're great for popping out with the laundry or rubbish when the grass is w...

Are cabbage white caterpillars black and green striped? I seem to have an infestation of these caterpillars, luckily only on my nasturtiums. I thought cabbage whites were green, IYSWIM.

Malk's Baby

Baby Finn arrived 5 June, healthy, happy and in a hurry. Mum, Dad, Finn and big brother Aidan all well and surviving the big transition.

Been to the plot twice already, but don't think he even opened his eyes.

Big wave to all and will catch up later.

Still no sign of baby.

Nice of you to ask, OH. Sorry been absent for so long. Just hanging around waiting, but been getting out to the allotment lots to finish last minute things up and to try and shift this stubborn babe. Am due tomorrow, but hoped it would be early like my son. Seems to be moving down, so keep your fing...

Lovely toasty day here. Can't do much at 8 months pregnant, but got out and dug and sieved the last load of usable compost into carrot and lettuce beds, weeded a bit of the flowers, threw a few carrot and lettuce seeds down, but really too early to expect much. Just nice to get out and enjoy the sun.

I was wondering what you guys would be saying about the new look GW and the allotment segment. And I'm not disappointed, i thought there would a 'hate it' contingency, but glad some are more philosophical about it. I don't think it's going to please everyone, and especially people who've had allotme...

I used one with son's birth and it was great until the pressure started. Need to get one for this birth as borrowed the last, was looking on Ebay, but might try lloyds if I can find one. Don't turn it on until you have both pads secured or take the pads off while on. I had the midwife and my partner...

I saw that recipe as well and figured I'd make my mash with a bit of marg and skimmed milk as always, though the thought of all that cream is lovely. but I couldn't skimp on the cheese, must have lots of cheese.

I chased down the recipe and stuck it in the recipe section if anyone's interested.

we have a free supply of wood chips, so I use that, but also feed the fruit I put it around quite well as I'm told it steals nitrogen from the plants.

I think garden presenters are like Dr Who for the British, you love the ones that were on the telly when you were really getting into the subject. I like Monty Don and I'm not really worried about his 'credentials'. I like that he's an enthusiastic gardener with an interest in veg (that seems to be ...

I've just read 'My Life on a Hillside Allotment' by Terry Walton. A light, fun read. The first book I've managed in ages and it got me wanting to get out and work on the plot again. I'm now re-dipping into Monty Don's 'Roots'. Say what you like about him, I like his style. And again it's light readi...
