Re: WHY??!!

Thanks all, just wanted to rant. Went out today in the harsh sunlight and it was depressing. I'm going to find it very difficult to go up there for a while, but I'm a work horse and after standing there and just looking at it for about 15 minutes, I hauled a barrel of burnt wood out and made a pile ...

Re: WHY??!!

Thanks, we're pretty sure this time it wasn't young boys. They break in often and don't do much other than minor damage. But recently we've had things stolen that would be worth something, tools, generators, stoves, ect, not that I had anything. They've been systematic about going into the sheds. Th...

WHY??!!

Morning all, I'm a bit miserable and thought you all would understand better than most. My allotment shed was burned down last night - because I had a bale of straw in front of it!! I can't believe it. About 20 plots were broken into but mine was the only one really damaged. I got the straw recently...

Re: Bits and Bobs No 11

Little bit of rain yesterday, but planted out a few sweet peas and the soil is bone dry. Unheard of in these parts. Looking forward to popping out to allotment today. Looks like I used the infected manure that came to the plots, I thought I used last year's supply, but my potatoes are curling up her...

Re: Pumpkins

That's great, don't think I'll save seed this year then, sounds like too much work, Plumpudding, with two little kids.

I guess that means I can also put my courgettes and squashes with the pumpkins if I run out of room.

Thanks guys.

Pumpkins

Does anyone know if you can plant different varieties of pumpkins near each other? I have 3 different varieties. Would they cross polinate?

Re: Gardeners World - Free vegetable seeds

I've always liked Beechgrove, but it's on a bit earlier when I'm putting the boys to sleep so I never get to see it. I signed up for the free seeds for both me and my older boy and got them last week, after about a month. The children's packs are the exact same as the GW's ones, so if anyone wants a...

Re: Dangerous things to say.

Plum Pudding , love the DUST. No wonder you divorced him. Is that your Mum or Gran? That question was on the tip of my tongue on a recent hen-night. Luckily thought again before I got too far into the wine. I didn't lower my voice however when I asked the bride-to-be if the woman I had been chatting...

Re: The most tedious job on the allotment.

I like doing most things, but weeding certain beds gets me. I have one that's waterlogged and I know it's pointless to weed it as it will not grow anything but wild garlic and I'll let it go to weeds again and have to strip it all in a few months anyway. I'm also not very good at anything that requi...

Re: A grand Easter!

Belated happy holidays to all, Had family things on most of the long weekend, but got out to the plot yesterday and planted some of my potatoes and potted on three tomatoes and a bunch of purple sprouting broccoli and sunflowers. Harvested some leeks that never really did much last autumn and a bit ...

Re: SWEET POTATOES

Goldilox, when you put them in the propagator do you just put them inwhole or do you put them in some sand/soil.

I have mine sitting in a box of sand in the greenhouse. Will that work?

Re: SPRING PROGRESS

Hello all, the spring bug has brought me out of hiding as well. I've been busy at the plot, both preparing for the season and playing with the boys. Potato bed is ready, planted tomatoes, peppers, early sprouting broccolli, butternut squash, calebrese, leeks, salad leaves. With my oldest I've plante...
