Re: This isn't really about cooking per se but marmalade

You've reminded me that I have a carrier bag of frozen Seville oranges left from last year; I only had time to do half a batch. I must get them out and start cooking, despite being, along with OH, quite cleary far too young!

Re: Down and Dirty.

I never used to wear gloves and then someone said to me "what on earth have you done to your hands?". I looked at them and realised that my fingers were so rough that they were ingrained with soil that no amount of scrubbing would remove. I ended up with sandpaper, filing down the rough bi...

Re: How do you cook?

Going back to precise quantities for baking, one thing I've always struggled with is eggs. Add 4 large eggs it says. I buy my eggs from a farm, or use our own if we have our chickens in lay, and the eggs are huge. Much bigger than supermarket "large" eggs. This surely has to affect recipes...

Re: How do you cook?

I have at least 100 cookbooks (an entire 5 shelf bookcase in the kitchen), all with measurements, but I use them as a guideline, rather than being absolutely precise with both the quantities and ingredients. The only exception to this is cakes, which I follow to the letter. I've only had one or two ...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

Bit of a sequel to Kinky Boots then OH? I can just see you modelling a pair of fish net stockings I'm still in recovery from the muck shovelling. A lazy day if you don't include my husband's tax return, but so cold and gloomy outside, I'm glad I was mostly in front of the wood burner. However an hou...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I've spent two days digging out one huge compost bin and filling a couple of big raised beds. I am so tired I can barely type, but I do feel good. Only another 4 bins to go. Who needs a gym Sean has been busy constructing our new fruit cage. I sourced one from Henry Cowls in Cornwall. They made fish...

Re: Hen Party - all chickens welcome!

Seedling moved to the south west and them came back up here, but no allotment and we're no longer living close by, so in touch, but not so much. Whatever happened to Lizzie and Grock?

Re: Hen Party - all chickens welcome!

I have just read right through this - there's 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back

Just how much were we drinking to have come up with all of that? I'd forgotten all about OHs Tattered Cock and Fine Bag, furthermore, that I had seen the inside of it!

Thank you Monika

Re: Late Autumn Bits and Bobs.

Hi OH, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. The good news is that when you do have the job done, you can be on here all day long I was thinking of the forum parties we used to have on here, back in the days when we were young - before you joined us, I think. We had virtual music from Prefab Sprout, S...

Re: Leek Miner?

Hi Stephen, we suffer from Allium Leaf Miner and have done for some years. Our leeks don't look like yours. The miner lays something like a small dark brown grain of rice, which then starts off under the first layor of leek and heads for the roots. Once there, it moves in a layer and heads back up t...
