Re: Offered - Walking Onions seed

Actually as this has come alive on the forum again - PP; How did these grow for you?

Re: Rocket

I'm like you Geoff, over sow it into thick clumps. I'm sure there is probably a reason for separate plants but I'm happy with the yield I get so won't be flaffing around with separate plantings.

Re: Lotty treats ...

I haven't tried it but I am going to this year - coleslaw made from the calabrese stem. I believe there are a few ideas for using it, so will enjoy trying some of them as I like a bit of crunch in food. It's also an out of season thing as well as I always note how much of the big chunks of stem you ...

British Tomato Week???

I received an e-mail from one of the foodie sites I follow, who were promoting British Tomato Week? Is it? Why May when no tomatoes ready? What joker thought that was fun!

Just to say site was Great British Chefs, so can't even blame an overseas site and different weather!

Re: and im back properly

My interest in growing is from my Grandmother, who brought me up. My grandfather was a shearer & a shearer's cook so away a far bit so Nana & I did the garden. We grew watermelons on the sweepings from the chickens & had other beds scattered around the yard to get some shade on the wee p...

Re: Never too old - or just mad?

I've just had to re-visit this to say I made the best decision ever! Yesterday I met some Experts with Experience reviewing our service! My Experts were people with Learning Disabilities & I had a brilliant time showing them around! They asked questions, met staff & I think were pretty impre...

Awe Bless her. Poorly children are just so fragile it breaks your heart to see them being pathetic & unable to express how they really feel. Here's your opportunity - pop out when she's asleep & sow some radishes & cut & come lettuces so by the time she feels better they will be show...

Re: Bit the Bullet! (Hopefully don't regret it)!

This year I have Parsnips, well they were there on the weekend anyway. I bought a seed tape pack from Wilkinson's, which I didn't realise actually & they are popping up nicely. Luckily I don't have the snail & slug problem at lottie that I have at home or would have been a repeat of last yea...

Re: Courgettes - Should I be worried?

Hedge your bets Pawty, sown in end of June will allow them to romp away if weather is kind, but could try to sow direct before you go. I did this year before last (or maybe the one before that), as slimey things bit the stems through on my home sown ones. They germinated & did fine even though I...

Bit the Bullet! (Hopefully don't regret it)!

Got a bit fed up with everything ready & waiting to plant out. Potted on so many times I needed a great big box to take down plants I'd normally take down in a plastic mushroom box. Outdoor Tomatoes, Aubergines, Chillies, Cucumbers & Sweet Corn in. All very well protected with windbreaks &am...

Re: Can't wait !

Hi Primrose! There is nothing you can do to redeem them into anything like a tasty tomato by any means. Of course minimally better if warm but really that should be micro-minimally better. Most supermarkets do sell labelled variety tomatoes along side the pack of 6 'salad tomatoes' though & alth...

Re: Courgettes - Should I be worried?

I've had poor germination as well. My yellow courgettes came up fine but I have just sown my 4th green courgette seed. (New Seed). The same with my patty pan - yellow up but not the green.

Strange!

Re: Here we go Bits and Bobs.

Yes Primrose - definitely worth it! A quick blanch, a few drops of balsamic vinegar & wrapped in some Serrano ham & roasted with parmesan flakes on top to serve! Just knew I should have changed into lottie clothes before going down there, but sunny day today so clothes dried & mud came o...
