Re: Tomato seeds looking for a home!
Hi all, no response from local allotments, school, or food bank...I am in area where there are no garden groups, no community gardens. I may try the local animal charity that runs a booth at the farmer's market - maybe bring them a few spare plants as well. Rather sad, as I am sure there is someone ...

Thank you for the discount code
Hi, I notied you had a TDP discount code this month, which reminded me: A belated thanks to KG mag for the TDP discount code. We used it the beginning of last year and bought ourselves a table and benches that are lovely & solid and not touched by the severe winds here. Plus no sanding / paintin...

Nettles - love to make them into soup in early spring, just to get them back. Not my fav soup, but OH loves it. Whenever I get stung later in the year, I tell them there is a soup pot waiting for them

Re: Edibles AND Decoratives - opinions please
Thanks all! Glad I am not alone. I love to mix it up and think veggie & other edibles are beautiful. My fav gardens to visit have both. An artichoke self-seeded into a flower bed on the other side of the garden and I left it - people visiting remarked what a lovely exotic flower I was growing :)...

Tomato seeds looking for a home!
I am, like most of us I think, obsessed with trying everything that takes my fancy. Well, now I have too many tomato seeds in my store. So, if you want to try some different toms for free, please let me know! These are commercial seeds, just unused portions, that have been stored in dark cool, dry, ...

Edibles AND Decoratives - opinions please
I seem to be bumping into people who think if you grow oramental plants (flowers, shrubs etc) that you don't "do" edibles (pfft, potatoes). And edible growers who don't "do" flowers/ shrubs ever (frilly nonsense). I am of the opinion they are all plants and I love growing them al...

Re: Celeriac
Hi! I grown them every other year on my no-dig beds as I found them pretty easy going and lovely to have during the colder months. I agree that they really don't like to dry out and I start removing the lowest leaves as they grow on and expand (not sure if this helps them get bigger as I was told, b...

Love 'em but my dwarf tree was just bashed repeatedly by a scared fledgling starling that got into the greenhouse. Ah, well, next year!

Re: Blueberries
Hiya! I never had luck with blueberries in pots, I think they dried out too much (lazy) I since dug a large trench lined with pavers and filled with erecaeceous compost - growing well for decades and lots of fruit. But I do agree with Geoff - they really like rainwater and not tapwater. I also mulch...

Re: Mid-summer Bits and Bobs
Still no rain here is east cambs - none so far this week, no thunderstorms, just miserable grey and wind after the gloroious sunshine and heat up through the mid-week. Hubby went to Norwich today and said it was sunny! Very odd weather...guess I have to go out and water my pots!

Re: Comfrey
You need to be careful that you grow a sterile comfrey like Bocking 13 - it does not produce seeds and so does not spread itself everywhere; It is only propagated by cuttings. If you grow comfrey from seed, it will reseed itself and be everywhere. Find someone with some Bocking, and they can put a c...

Re: Pickled Gherkin Recipe
Hi Arnie! I really don't like vinegary things at all but I have done a sweet sliced refrigerator pickles with my gherkins - very easy. Recipe was in a Waitrose magazine some years ago. Slice the gherkins into 1cm slices, sprinkle with coarse salt and leave in fridge for 12 hours. Put 200ml cider vin...

Re: Strawberry Varieties?
I really love Mara de Bois. A true starwberry taste, does not make oversized mutants, just proper strawberry sized fruits. It is an everbearing so you get little and often and few/no runners. I will always grow these!! I eat them out of hand or freeze them to make into jams (C Ferber recipe). I was ...
