saving seeds

I have sungold toms at the moment growing well. I usually buy plants because mine always go leggy, but next year I am going to try again. The seeds are expensive to buy. Does anybody know the best way to dry and save your own tomato seeds and what sort on germination rate do you get. Thanks Tracie

land drains

Thanks for your replys. I think I might put some gravel in the trench, then use the raised bed method. My other plot next door, thinking about, it was not quite so bad when I took it on a a couple of years ago. I put in 4 raised beds and loads of manure and the soil is now a lot better. It was a lot...

banana shallots

I can now hardly wait for my seeds to be planted and grow on into hopefully shallots.
I have heard that they are fantastic to eat and all the top chefs use them because they are so superior to normal shallots.

Thanks for your postings

I have some of the seeds from a good French seed company. Buy im not sure when I should start the seeds off. Should I treat them like onion seed and plant on Christmas day ( no chance ) or should I start the seeds off in January.

Many Thanks

more leaf problems

I have been out and about in my new red and white spotty wellies (bargain Asda 12.00) sweeping up bags and bags of leaves and I have put them into a large wooden compost bin in layers with a sprinkling of well rotted farmyard manure, topped with a layer of leaf mould. I have covered the whole lot in...

wormery

thanks for your reply.
I was going to site it on our south facing patio, but it sounds not such a good idea.

Having read your email im having second thoughts when I can just put the stuff on the compost heap, but I have found this has attracted loads of flies even when constantly covered. :(

Having seen the wormery in kg this month I am tempted to make a purchase.

Has anybody used one before?, are they any good?, do you have to separate the worms from the compost when you go to use the compost?.

Does anybody have any experiance of wormerys
