Composting & Washington state
I heard this story on "The News Quiz" (which I found most amusing on the subject) and thought this is the ideal place to discuss the subject. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/may/21/eco-friendly-ending-washington-state-is-first-to-allow-human-composting AS an alternative to cremati...

Re: pumpkins
The method given to me for growing curcubits was to dig a substantial hole and fillit with manure, then add water until it is virtually liquid before adding the young plant. I will be using the base of my manure heap this year for my squash.

None down south for a while. There is a small possibility today (less than 20% chance) and much the same tomorrow.

Re: Asparagus
I do like a bit of 'grass, as does the undergardener.
So, it is re-plant time! (Well, when the time is right).

Re: A view of my garden
Hi Primrose Thank you. Yes, I agree it looks unstable but I can tie it back. The whole garden is fenced/walled in but stuff does blow about. It faces east but I like the idea of a fleece lining over parts. That's very clever. Thank you. Sadly the cover isn't perfect, there are a couple of splits in ...

Initially more crowns gave some shoots, but, yes, I have.
When I had less time (or less control of my time), it never reached the urgent or important parts of my lists! I now have more time, so will sort things out. It is really a question if I put in new asparagus or grow something else.

Re: Flooding
Hi Connie
Sorry to hear of your flood. Here in the Chilterns we have clay and chalk, but as I am on the upper section of a slope, excess water runs off, so I have no direct experience.
How about liquid feed added as you water?

I know, I'm enjoying a similar situation with similar results (but the French beans are behind yours)
Meanwhile I have been given a minature greenhouse, so I should be able to germinate stuff better next year!

As for the slugs, they may creep out of water but surely they die in beer?

Re: Asparagus
I was despondent about my asparagus bed which was showing nothing until a couple of weeks ago. Now it looks like there are four or five crowns producing (but only those from about a dozen I put in at least seven years ago). I'm wondering whether to start again from scratch; I was surprised by their ...
