doesn't it have to be a locking blade for the plod to get really sniffy about it?
I have a Swiss Army knife which caused no bother at all at the London eye, but the Asst. Est Mgr's tiny wee locking jobbie saw him practically handcuffed and marched orf to the Old Bailey!

See, the trouble is that the Asst Est. Mgr would want to fit a Nitrous Oxide kit to it :P

ooooo - what a good idea!
I assume you take some soil, add a little rainwater, shake it about and dip the pH paper into it?

I think that different parts of my garden have different pH values; and I wouldn't want the Asst. Est Mgr planting an ericaceous something or other in a chalky bit. ;)

I take it that ladies can tinkle on compost heaps too?
What do you think my worms would make of it? Would it kill them?
I could happily send the Asst. Est Mgr up to the wormery regularly :)

soil testing kit

I think I perhaps actually ought to know for sure what my soil is in terms of acidity. Would anyone be able/willing to recommend a soil testing kit for me to harass the Asst. Est Mgr with?

Thanks v much

heavens, I have no children!
Horrible little things, stampeding all over my garden, squishing my lawns and hoiking out my tender perennials

I have worms. They're my babies :)

I have a dibber courtesy of those jolly nice fellows at Burgon and Ball. It does look as if it should have come from Ann summers though!

The Asst. Est Mgr bought me a pair of Felco loppers for Christmas, and they're amazing!
They have carbon fibre handles too, so they're really light. This is not to be sniffed at when you're hacking away at a high branch!

Your favourite piece of equipment

Mine has to be my Felco No2 secateurs!
I can't speak highly enough of them and would thoroughly recommend them to others.
And the Asst. Est Mgr has kindly bought me the leather holster for them too, so I don't leave them lying around ;)

Share your favourites with your fellow gardeners!

Not sure if I'm allowed to mention eBay on here, but that's where I get my P Touch label reels from. What I'd really like are those lovely labels that you find in large gardens - I think they might be a kind of engraving. They're rigid black plastic with white lettering showing through. I wonder whe...

John, what a great test!
So, this stuff is definitely not "ready" :(
Do I leave it in the agg bag (I can imagine that's going to go down well with the Asst.Est Mgr :? )

Would I do any harm by using it as a mulch, or digging it in as it is in its current state?

this pinching out business... I've grown some sweet pea seeds and they're currently about 5" high with about three sets of leaves. Should I wait until there are five sets of leaves? And when I do pinch them out do I nip the top set of leaves off just beneath the leaf or just above the 4th set? ...

am I too late?

I guess I'm too late to plant garlic now?
I found the garlic farm website and would love to grow some, but what am I to do with all the garlic which will no doubt be produced from 10 bulbs!
