Gardening in Spain!

My husband is dead keen to move to Spain. I have tried to find out information about growing veggies in Southern Spain, but haven't come up with anything. Anyone out there know anything about growing fruit and veggies in hot mediterranean country - Southern Spain? What is successful? What can you NO...

I was given a Oregon weather station for my birthday last September, which I keep at home. It's been a bit tricky to locate the sensor somewhere where it won't get wet, and I think it's too close to the house, but as I have a thermometer in the car, at the allotment greenhouse and in my home plastic...

Thibk there's a letter in this month's KG about growing ginger - you can grow it in pots from roots (rhyzomes) bought from the supermarket. They seem to recommend that you keep them in heat, tho. Anyhoo, back to the original thread! I have grown enough for my own family, especially as I didn't origi...

My heart goes out to you Peter. It's a cleft stick with your mum and no mistake. And sadly, as you've found, there's no satisfactory solution. Hope you find some solace in your veggie gardening! It can be very theraputic when things get tough - well it is for me, anyway. Even a muddy trudge to lift ...

Hey, we have literally, LITERALLY just all finished planting our fig tree!!! We have planted ours in a pot on a sunny south facing wall. As mentioned by Jenny, they don't fruit unless you restrict the root run. Our tree has been planted in John Innes No 3, in a 24" teracotta pot. What sort of fig is...

Interesting, Tigger! I have an unheated greenhouse at the lottie and a little plastic 4 tier jobbie at home unheated of course. So you give me heart! My lettuce is just starting to germinate on the window sill. I take it, then, that you grow basil and coriander when you say 'soft' herbs? I'm sufferi...

Planted any good seeds recently?????

Having brought some of my parsley in from the cold and seen how it's thrived on my windowsill, I have taken a chance on some basil, lettuce and coriander seeds in pots on my sunny south facing window sill. Anybody else done similar and does it succeed at this time of year? Also, have tried some cut ...

Thanks for the advice! I have to move said heap, unfortunately, because my lottie is behind someone else's and the pile has been dumped on their plot. But I think I'll move it and cover it, as suggested.

Manure!

I have some muck left from last year which is lovely and crumbly, but just about all gone. I now have a lovely great big new pile - but it's quite fresh and has quite a lot of straw in it. Is it OK to put on like this? I need to shift it - a massive job in itself, and was hoping to spread it on my d...

I know I'm on dodgy ground, but as a teacher, let me give the other side of the story. We have dozens, no hundreds of different targets to meet, assessments to do, topics that MUST be covered and be proved to be covered. I could continue to list ad infinitum. If everyone has the right to take their ...

Heaven's Kitchen

Hey, anybody out there caught Heaven's Kitchen??? Think it's on UKTV style or UKTV gardens. Caught it by accident the other night and really enjoyed it. Is running parallel with UKTV food's Heaven's Kitchen, to do with the Pot Kiln restaurant in Berkshire. Anybody got any feedback on it??? Was espec...
