I spent yesterday spreading manure on two raised beds, around thirty gallons of chicken muck there are times I am glad I have no sense of smell

We brought some cuttings of alpine strawberries from the hedge rows in mid Wales around 45 years ago we now have around five clumps of them in the garden they are very nice if a bit seedy when eating ,only trouble is our inherited grandsons dog uses them to clock his leg up on

I bought a large bag of it the year before last I'm still using it,don't buy the small tins from the chemists it's far cheaper buying the industrial stuff

What I started doing last year with great success is this , when planting seeds in the ground I had a lot of failures whether it was due to the type of soil I have (heavy clay) I don't know but what I did was after preparing the soil for planting and putting the seeds in the drills I backfill with p...

My packet of thunderstorm broccoli has just arrived , you should have seen the look on my wife's face when I read the printing on the back out ' a distinctive fast growing broccoli with an outstanding flavour similar to asparagus' it was a picture guess she is not keen on asparagus

Another wet and windy day I've fed and cleaned the chickens out put some peelings in the wormary I will spend the afternoon looking through the window or looking at the back of my eye lids

I've just brought 16 asparagus tips from the plot my wife decided she did not want any ,I've just made a pig of myself it would have been better with a few more oink oink

My wife loves snipping them in half using scissors ,beer traps work well but need to be covered to stop the beer getting watered down we have had great success using beer traps but we have only used them in Spain I like slug pellets most things I grow are covered with netting so birds have not a cha...

Tomorrow is rugby day apart from feeding the chickens that's my day done ,Saturday is rotovating day we have been delayed on my wife's cancer treatment now it starts Tuesday for six weeks so I suppose Sunday and Monday will be tidy up days
