Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
I may well some of them Peter, but I'd need a plot of about 2 acres to use them all up!

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
Primrose - you've hit the nail on the head! Yes it will take chainsaws and long ladders to tackle it now...and then it's having to get rid of all those prunings! Which is the main reason I'll be getting someone in...they have a big chipper that can 'disappear' the mountain of waste! I don't have roo...

Re: Mint - is there scientific proof that growing different types together affects the individual flavours?
I can't really see how growing the two together would make a difference to the flavour of either plant and have never seen any scientific proof that it happens. The flowers certainly might easily cross pollinate to produce inferior/mixed tasting seedlings and of course if you accidentally mixed them...

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
Hedges too. We have a mixed hedge down each side of our narrow garden and over the years they have gradually got higher and wider until one must be 5ft thick and 9-10ft tall. They are clipped twice a year, but without realising I and neighbours have left a few inches more each time I guess until the...

Re: Brassica look a like
Many thanks for your very helpful comments all. I think I'll offer Primrose's suggestion to grow it on and to see what the flower head looks like and also try to find out more about the source of the compost as Westi suggests.
Thanks again folks. If I find out what it is eventually I'll let you know!

How does your marrow smell? With its nose of course! Or maybe it was just the runt of the litter?

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
You could be right Primrose. I've put it on a slate now in the hope that it'll keep growing. Otherwise I can see the red card going to Pa Snip!

Brassica look a like
Hi All, hoping you can help me (or a reader) identify a brassica-like plant that has popped up in his compost. Looks like a brassica and the leaves are cabbage like, but softer. Any ideas? cabbage 3.jpg cabbage 4.jpg He'd like to know if it will produce a head and if he can eat it. Any thoughts grat...

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
No offence taken Pa Snip - I always expect a bit of ribbing and putting in my place when visiting the forum. It wouldn't be the same if I didn't!

Blight! Blight!...I didn't come here to have my tomatoes insulted you know. And on a Monday morning too. I can see how this week is going to pan out.

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
How very dare you Pa Snip! That was one of my own Crimson Crush plants from a few years back! I used it as an example of one of the great varieties that the gold medal-winning team have produced over the years. Bit obscure I realise and perhaps I should have stuck with the PR picture that was suppli...

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
Oh no! Looking better than mine Pa Snip. My first one eaten by mistake, the second one I posted a picture of last week I realised over the weekend has a wonky end; the flower came away to reveal a kind of pig's snout or belly button! I think it'll rot. That's what you get for showing off! Another co...

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.
I'm growing Marmande for the first time this year as I am the only one in the family that will eat raw tomatoes, but we all like tomato soup/sauces etc. Also trying Coure Di Bue which is an ox-heart type for the same reason, although do have some cherry toms for myself and Akron F1 for my sarnies!

Can you try clicking the attachments box below, then add files, then add inline (I think). Any good?

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.
That's interesting - I'll look it out! Must have been hard to leave your garden here, but sounds like you have made yourself at home and doubtless another lovely garden in Spain.
