Great book!

I got this out from the library last year when I probably fit into the "dreamer" catagory. I am not slowly trying to make my way towards the "realist" and want to buy this book! It really is a fun read. Very practical. I particularly liked how it showed you how to best utilise la...

Interesting

Hmmmm. I might give this a try with my cut and come again seeds. I have loads of lettuce seed this year (numerus free packets and over buying). Are your onions overwintered ones? Mine are quited big and well established now. What about between garlic?

Hemp hand cream

Body shop hemp hand cream is the best. I work in a hospital and wash my hands probably 20+ times a day. This is good thick stuff and works wonders for keeping the backs of your hands and nail beds really soft.

Worth every penny, but shame it comes in such and akward tube.

fab idea!

Fantastic. I will have my little vac out later this year if the white fly return. Mind you it only bothered my kale very late in the season. I would agree though with the others that slugs are the main worry. I just planted out some summer cabbages yesterday and put lots of beer traps around, but ex...

Thanks

All the advice is much appreciated. I think I will err on the side of caution as this is my first time growing onions and garlic. I'll find room somewhere else undoubtedly for all my extras. :)

Cheers.

sowing btw onions

Is there anything I can sow in between rows of onions or garlic. Perhaps radishess, lettuces, spring onions? Just feel it is a bit of wasted space. The onions are overwintering ones, so have a bit of growth on them. Also, garlic has been grown in ridges, so space between is quite wet. Any thoughts a...

PSB

Ours did the same a few weeks ago when we had snow andn very cold weather. Expect they may look like that now but it's too bloody cold again to warrant a trip out to the allotment! Ours seemed to recover fine, but haven't had any real crop off of them yet.

Yes, thanks for the reminder. I have done that with the one that has started to bud, but the others haven't done anything yet. They look healthy though so I'll be patient.

Thanks

Yes I think you may have a point about the over watering. In Sept we had a well meaning neighbour looking after our cats whilst we were on holiday. When we returned my houseplants were drenched. However I did try to dry them out a bit but then found out my husband was giving them the occasional top ...

Best of both worlds?

I took up a free Blueberry offer in Nov this year and got a very small (although healthy) looking plant. However I also bought another plant from the Dorset Blueberry Co (which should arrive soon). My hope is that the larger older plant from will give some fruit soon whilst the other will simply hel...

No PSB

Out of 4 healthy looking plants only one of my PSB has started to produce (and only minimally). I can't remember which variety I planted but thought by now I should be having a crop. Is it just too cold still or has something gone wrong? Plants were pretty healthy all winter. Any advice would be muc...

Houseplant Help

Help! Many of my houseplants seem to have lost the will to live and are dying, even one that were looking strong throughout the winter. There seems to be a bit of a pattern in that they quite rapidly start dropping leaves and no matter what I do (give more water, give less water, feed, don't feed) t...

Thanks

Thanks all for the tips. We were actually thinking to use just a barrell with some sort of mesh type lid to catch rain water and then simply dip the watering can in. We haven't got a shed to attach a water but to at our allotment. Is this realistic? We don't need it as our main supply of water, but ...
