Thanks Colin.
Fascinating.
The Met Office said we would milder and warmer winters. Previous studies claimed that sun activity had no effect on climate..
Prepare for a gradual change in scientific thinking is what the paers say to me: current thinking appears to be wrong...

Re: Here we go again.
Warm this am . Only -4C. Nice running weather.
Hail but no snow. As it has been dry, not much ice so firm underfoot...
Bit colder forecast though... Will it beat last year's -19C?

Re: Monty's Return
I suspect the BBC bosses despise gardeners.. On their huge salaries, they probably employ them - not as presenters but to do their own gardens.. I say that with no shred of proof but the evidence of a program obviously directed by people who have zero feel or enthusiasm for gardening ( as a contast ...

Once again, the Met Office has had to change its forecasts as the effects of Global warming have been exaggerated - by them. "Climate change: Met Office halves 'worst case' sea level prediction The Met Office has halved its "worst case" prediction for rising sea levels, in the latest ...

Colin I read that article with interest. My comments are: NO mention of the fact that falling ice levels in Greenland would mean less mass on Greenland so the land levels would rise and hence displace more sea. That is basic stuff (geology) which I would expect a serious study to comment on. No ment...

Welcome Richward> Piers can say what he likes. His track record on weather forecasting -like last winter and this summer - and this winter- at least 6 months in advance- is very impressive. He's also better than the Met Office but I am afraid that is no recommendation...Their long term forecasts des...

Re: Olympics in bloom.
You are all SO cynical. We need the Olympics to keep the unthinking public amused... just like the World Cup (where people actually bet that England would win). In Roman times the mob were kept happy by "bread and circuses".. Read "benefits and TV sport" for the modern equivalent...

Re: Hot...
So lets get this straight.
If we have a hot summer, that's evidence of man-made global warming.
If we have a cool summer and a record cold winter, that's evidence of man made global warming as well. And the UK weather is irrelevant.
I think I understand it now.
