Re: Anyone know what this is?

I looked it up on the RHS website Westie. Maybe you should think twice about keeping it however attractive.

Re: Decorative Bark Wood Chip

Try asking for wood chip Bill. Maybe it's just the bark which is expensive which would have to be stripped off first which makes it expensive. I would think it would have to go through a saw mill for that Or some such procedure. Not the kind of thing most local tree surgeons have. Is it for an allot...

Re: Decorative Bark Wood Chip

We have it delivered to for free, several tree surgeons have permission from the council to dump it at any of our allotment sites. They are only too pleased to get rid of it as otherwise they would have to pay to dispose of it. It may be more than just bark but worth making enquiries.

I am so very sorry Peter. Makes our problems of the 4 legged kind seem very small. We have had vandalism but not on this scale. What mindless thugs do these things.

Re: Squirrels - Help!

Monica I did look up Grazers and couldn't find any mention of squirrels but it sent me on a search and I found Mouse had posted a similar question about beetroot being eaten and everyone thought it could be rats. We do have the occasional rat but usually the foxes see to those but it could well be, ...

Squirrels - Help!

Can anyone help with a fool proof method, (not a shot gun) of keeping squirrels from eating carrots already protected with vegi-mesh? They are attacking all carrots grown on our site, munching their way through and leaving the green tops. For me they entered one side of the frame had their fill and ...

Re: And my best vegetable growing hints

Growing veg is 90% common sense and 10% luck.
Listen to all advice and do what is best for you.
When digging start and finish at the same pace to avoid strain.
when pruning if in doubt do nowt.

Re: Apple tree pest

Yes, definitely woolly aphid, I have successfully treated a tree in the past with meths, but I used a tooth brush. You do have to be vigilant and keep at it as John says, it tends to reappear particularly where you have made any cuts so I would say don't prune unless you really have to. It will come...

feeding figs

My fig tree on the allotment is loaded with fruit this year and other than a good mulch in the winter I don't feed it. But the one I have at home in a pot is now about 4ft tall, looking very healthy but no fruit yet. I am sure I should be feeding it with something but what? Would ordinary tomato fee...

Re: How long did your non-stick last ?

Catherine maybe that is why I can't find a stir fry pan anywhere. Perhaps I would be better sticking (excuse the pun) to the old non stick. I do seem to go through them though.

Re: Pruning Plum Beauty

Westi, I wouldn't like to advise you on pruning, not my best subject but isn't wonderful to have so much fruit for the first time this year. I am leaving well alone and going to enjoy it.

Re: How long did your non-stick last ?

Primrose, I also think there should be a warning on the box how fragile they are. I decided to change a complete set of mine - (9 bulbs in all) the glass is so thin I broke 3 just putting them in. One box had one broken when I opened it but B & Q did refund for that one.
