Labels and Marker Pens.
Hi Geoff, However many times a salesman says to you it's resistant to ultra violet the word resistant is treated as permenant and there is a world of difference. I use white labels but I now use a pencil and the graphite is impervious to sunshine. Although the graphite is easily removed you do not n...

Moles
Hi Carole, Now you think I am extracting the watsit and I truthfully am not. There was an account, quite well documented, in the early days of the HDRA and edited by Lawrence Hills. I have caught several Weasels in my time but not for releasing. Do you remember the old original milk bottles that had...

Moles
Hi Mr PH, The way to get rid of Moles and Rabbits is by using Weasel Crap down there respective holes. The drawback. First catch your Weasel! It is said that if you can catch a Weasel and keep it in a cage for about a week it will use one part as a latrine and you can release it to the wild and just...

Hi Chantal, I ask, exceedingly politely, if you have identified your weed 100%. Gallant Soldier and it's sibling Shaggy Soldier are both Annuals and there is no mention of them being rhizomatic. They are both imports from South America. My information is that though widespread, they are really confin...

Sun Dried Tomatoes.
Hi Kevin, I have got grave doubts if it is possible to sun dry tomatoes in the uk. However I could be completely wrong. Allan is the Tomato King so lets hope he picks up on this thread. I really have no idea which would be the best for your need. May I wish you a Happy New Year and may all your grow...

Hi Carole, I can understand why you are confused and this is one of the reasons that Peat's letter was so wrong. It painted a completely false senario. You ask what happened with plants prior to the application of chemicals but the question should be what happened prior to the application of Biologi...

Bread King.
Hi Bread Queen, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I have been making my own bread since 1975 and it takes no time at all to make the so called 'Hard Way'. I look upon bread machines as just something else to go wrong. Yesterday I made some Sun Dried Tomato Bagettes and they where srummy! The thing is...

Peter, I believe that your letter is not correct and must be challenged. Whereas it may well be true that if you use nothing but man made fertilizers over a prolonged period you may well destroy the structure of your soil and a breakdown of microbial action within that soil. With the absence of orga...

Garden Compost as Potting Compost
Hi Hilary,
I would buy just half the amount of potting compost you normally do and seive your acquired 'gold dust'
and mix 50:50 adding some sharp sands as Fen suggests. On it's own I feel that you would produce plants that are far too fleshy and open to attack by just about everything.

How cold it is at yours?
Hi Peter,
I have just looked outside at 12.30am and it is -4 C
and it normally gets colder at dawn. There is a very heavy frost with it.

Economy of scale?
Hi Richard, Quote. "Four of these will make an enclosure of size 1x1+ 1 square metre. Now the next season you want to enlarge so you get another 4 panels and make a second bin, also 1 square metre. Then you start to think, suppose I put the two sets together, how big is the bin, the answer is 2x2=4 ...
