Colin,I'm by no means an expert, but if I had cylindrical bins I would be tempted to roll them around rather than agitate with a fork.

Squashes

This may seem a silly question, but it's something that has been bugging me. Most squashes produce long shoots or feelers from which flowers and thereby fruit grow. If one prevents these growths, will the plant produce flowers closer to the main stem ? I ask as my garden isn't very big and the squas...

I think if these tests were conducted under "normal" growing conditions this year then they should do them again in a more "normal" year. Everyone knows that some years are good for one thing and rubbish for another, it happens. All it means to me is that my policy of mostly usi...

Unfortunately for you, Chantal, it is perfectly legal. All domestic appliances' guarantees are invalid when the appliance is used for commercial purposes.

Thanks Alan.
I shall do the same and merely wash them off. By the way, a couple of our pepper plants have them.

Red/Brown bugs on Toms

We have noticed these on some of our tomatoes (only Legend it seems). They are smaller than greenfly and can easily be mistaken for splashes of mud. Does anyone have any idea what they might be and how to deal with them ? My original thought was Red Spider Mites but recalled reading that they are to...

I have about 8 lemongrass seedlings growing from seed - first few attempts didn't work but these are coming on fine.

I was wondering how to pot them on? Do they do well in containers as even though I live in South East I am sure they won't like the winter even here??

That's not a problem once or twice. Bicarbonite of soda is a better solution for regular use.

Ron There seem to be a few misunderstandings here. You say you "cut off" the side shoots when "they" were 5-6in high. What were 5-6 inches, the shoots or the plants? What did you cut them off with? Tigger is correct in saying that you pinch out (finger and thumb) the shoots whic...

When do you cut off side shoots from "cordon tomatoes&q

I'm sorry if this is fairly basic but I'm confused. We have grown 2 types, Legend and Ruby. I cut off side shoots when they were 5 to 6 inches high and they don't seem to be growing any higher. was I too early ?

We planted tomatos, peppers (sweet and chilli) and aubergines last week and put then in a warm place (in wardrode near boiler) they are shooting like mad - how can we keep them healthy??

We are quite new to gardening and don't want the seedlings to stretch etc.

Any advice welcome.
