Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

Half inch rain overnight and another half inch today....have soaked two coats through...came home and undressed straight into washing machine and whilst it rumbled round I headed for a hot bath.. On the plus side, raked up some gravel driveway during the interlude from the overnight to todays rain.....

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

From recall, we had a dry June when we were wishing it to rain, then we got to St Swithun's day in July and it did indeed rain....then for the rest of the year we wished it would stop raining... Sunshine today... :) ...just don't look at the overnight forecast though...high possibility of heavy rain...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I remember some weeks of fog in Dec' 1991....I had hatched a plan to fly in a light aircraft from Skegness Aerodrome to Dover and return to see the Radio Caroline ship Ross Revenge that had come in off the Goodwins.. The fog stayed put and my plan was a long time getting off the ground....eventually...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I got another 4ft strip across the back garden dug today....but ran straight in to some couch grass at the start and then creeping perennial sow thistle at the pathside end...all on Christmas day in the morning...well, the sow thistle roots were found after Stilton cheese rolls on Christmas day just...

Re: Happy Birthday, Clive.

Thank you Robo, The time of the season here sees me trying to catch up in the garden at home. A bit more sorted today, finishing off a light prune of the Bountiful apple tree which opened up the next strip of digging. I dig the garden in roughly 4ft wide strips...I've got the easy bits nearly done.....

Re: Happy Birthday, Clive.

Hanging in the shed at work..now really just for effect..is my old St Michael brand brown anorak that was my first gardening coat..it has been through many rose bushes and shrubberies...and looks like it has. I now faff about washing machine wax proofing the current one...but it'll never have the ch...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

It's been blooming windy up this way, quite violent, with gusts to 57mph recorded locally, dark too...I'm sure further north the numbers were much higher.. I had the radio up fairly loud to cover the roar of the wind and help steady my nerves as everything was taking a battering... At one time the c...

Re: Happy Birthday, Clive.

Thank you for the Birthday Wishes... To recap on the day, I visited work to feed the cats and check greenhouses, headed next to the Co-op for a quick shop... and along the High Street in search of a new 1ltr kettle. Our local hardware shop came up trumps, £5 more than a possible online purchase but ...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I NikWax treated two of my coats on Friday evening and hoped that would bring on a dry spell...not so....14 hours of heavy rain listed on our forecast...and we are on the drier side of the Country...or at least used to be...

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

The frost has already had a good go at it, the day after it was dug in fact...but this morning it was much more white..
..enough locally that the snowploughs were out and about.

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

A light covering of snow this morning on some frozen hard Winter digging.
The sunshine was brief...fog then descended for the day...minus temp' numbers all day.

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.

That's better, a fresh sunny dry day.. ..although there's another dose of rain showing for us for Monday.! I've just come in from cutting out and tying in my blackberry Loch Ness. Whilst elsewhere this morning I sprinkled a few seeds, collected directly from a herbaceous border, into some seed pans....

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.

The Autumn leaf colour has changed very quick here now, we did have a couple of frosts a few weekends back. Lime leaves falling along the drive. Reckon we sit at 142mm since, and including, Babet..good job we are on the drier side of the country.... It's sausage and mash with beetroot as the veg' he...
