Re: New year Bits and Bobs.

What a cutie! Our pack of 6 are all getting older and I miss having a pup around. Always bred my own but it's not going to happen this time as the one I had earmarked for motherhood had to be spayed to stop fits.

Re: A scam we could fall for

I seem to get a lot of those ones where you're sent an email from someone on your contact list and it starts off with a greeting and then a link. I presume it's because they've been hacked. Otherwise it's a lot of notifications of closed bank accounts that I don't have, loans I 'qualify' for, Russia...

Re: Seeds are In!

My Grandmother's second hubby came from a remote area of Canada and recalled that in the twenties and thirties his family would send for their seed potatoes mail order and they came in an envelope... literally just the sprouting eye. But like most I pick a chicken egg size seed potato. Wasn't there ...

Go for it Westi!

I changed career totally when I hit the big 50 and picked up 3 good, part time posts which have kept me out of trouble over the last 10 years! And I have been asked to do more... us older bods have a lot to offer.

Re: Mypex or black plastic?

Just read this thread, my goodness what an inappropriate allotment site they chose! I have tackled a garden that was lumps of solid yellow clay, I didn't go down the covering route at all as I've seen the 'slap' effect from loose plastic which pats down the surface and makes the ground sour. I gave ...

Re: Rain

Superb cold clear sky here this morning, I stood out in the field like a lemon trying to spot the space station going past at 7.38am but there were several plane trails going the same direction so couldn't work out if I'd seen it or not!

A rare treat

I went out to a farm cafe with a friend yesterday and purchased from their shop some unpasteurized, un-homogenized milk from their Guernsey herd. I made porridge with it this morning, from the moment of pouring the thick creamy top of the milk to eating the last spoonful was a pure delight. What a s...

Re: November planted potatoes

You can roast Charlottes freshly dug. Lift, wash, don't peel, steam for 10 minutes, chuck into a tin with hot oil, roll them around sprinkle with salt and bit of Rosemary if you fancy it, and roast for an hour in a hot oven. Not your classic roastie but still good.

Re: New eating and drinking habits.

My honorable ancestors are 92 and 94 enjoy a glass of wine with their dinner and a malt whiskey before bed. Doesn't seem to have shortened their allotted yet... but neither are in perfect nick and don't expect to be. Quite possibly doctors expect us to all be in great shape. By the way, aren't docto...

Sorry Pawty, it's in there! Absolutely it's in there... Takes only a very small amount for me to react to it. And when they say cooking removes all alcohols... nope! 'Of the three chief by-products of alcoholic fermentation, only glycerol remains at present referable directly to the sugar.' Alcoholi...

Re: New eating and drinking habits.

Himself plays in the 'old fellas' local cricket team and one of his mates used to be a Royal Navy doc, 'How do you know when you're drinking too much?' my other half asked. 'When you feel like c..p in the morning' was the reply... seems good advice. I've never smoked (hate the smell), and for the la...
