Nice sunny day here today, so I planted some onion sets this afternoon.
The early potatoes in tubs in the greenhouse are growing rapidly. I must plant up the other tubs and leave them outside.
Yet another trip to the recycling centre today with the last of the brick bbq. Glad to see the back of it

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
As long as it stays dry, I'll start planting next week.
The weeds are germinating, so it must be warm enough

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
After the storm last night, I had to replace one piece of glass in the greenhouse. Couldn't be a strightforward piece could it. Oh no, it had to be one of those triangular pieces Luckily, I had a piece of perspex ( I think ), which I cut to size Then, I managed to knock the tap on one of the waterbu...

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
We've had lots of heavy showers and lots of sunshine here as well. Strong wind all day. Forecast to rain all night, but a bit better tomorrow. Potted up some peppers this morning in the greenhouse, and then started demolishing a large unused brick BBQ. Once I've cleared that out of the way, I should...

Hi Geoff,
Could you have unknowingly planted them deeper at the start of the row.
Did you draw out a trench?

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
All of my early potatoes will be in large pots this year.
I've got a bed ready for some Charlotte and Cara. Any of those over, will go in pots as well
There is quite a large patio area at the end of the garden that has loads of room for tubs.

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
I've got two tubs standing in the greenhouse with Rocket spuds in. They have just started pushing through the surface now. Soon be time to put some more compost in the tubs. The peppers are ready for potting up. I bought 12 Polka raspberries last autumn, and they are all showing growth now. Can't wa...

Re: Removing all taste from apples... and tomatoes
Part of the trouble, is a whole generation of people who have no idea what fruit and veg should taste like. They probably think that supermarket taste is normal.
I remember the first time my son-in-law tasted parsnips from my allotment. He never realised that parsnips had a taste before

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
Many thanks for the welcome OH and Geoff I tried to carry on as before, but soon gave up the large plot. I kept the small plot and the couple of polytunnel plots though, as well as still buying supplies for the seed store. What I found though, is that I can keep going for about an hour, but then nee...

Re: Welcome Spring, Bits and Bobs.
I've been changing the garden into an allotment since giving up my plots last September. Almost finished now, and all the beds have been dug and finished off with the Mantis. I've got garlic growing in the greenhouse, along with some early carrots just germinated. Two tubs with Rocket spuds standing...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.
Yes, rain at last early yesterday, 18mm, which isn't a lot but has certainly wetted the surface. We are still watering the plants which most need it because the forecast for the next few days is for hot and dry weather. Like the other allotmenteers around us, our pea harvest has been virtually nil....

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Really hot here yesterday, and then the storm arrived last evening.
Very strong winds, heavy rain, and thunder most of the night.
Good job I left all my onions spread out on the plot to dry

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.
Bit miserable and windy weather today. Feels quite chilly My neighbour came round this morning and helped me demolish an old wooden gazebo that was in danger of falling down. Left me with quite a nice base in the corner of the garden. Shall I get another shed? Do I need another shed? Can you ever ha...
