Re: My Problem with Blanch

I know that it probably upsets the purists not to blanch, but the only produce I bother to blanch these days is sweetcorn. Whole cobs are blanched for about 5 minutes after the water has come back to the boil; only putting a few in the pan at one time to minimise their cooling effect. After blanchin...

Re: Its No Joke

Her reply was that she didn't know and would get in touch with the consultant, came back a few minutes later and said "Sorry, we couldn't read the consultants writing, we are now scanning your neck" !!!! In all seriousness, that sort of thing is alarming. There should be absolutely no exc...

Re: Its No Joke

Not as serious as the others, but dad had had both his cataracts operated on after a very long wait, then a couple of months later got another appointment ( for his third eye?). When I was a young 'un, blankety-blank years ago, if I was about to commit a misdemeanour (or already had!), my father us...

Not a lot to report from this front.
Picking raspberries and a few other bits and pieces every couple of days, and trying to keep on top of the weeding as and when the changeable weather permits.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Yesterday was my first really good day's cropping this season. For our evening meal we had peas, broad bean tops, calabrese, and new potatoes, followed by a few strawberries and raspberries. Times like that and the previous hard work seems really worthwhile. :D

They may have been insipid and tasteless, but I bet they were beautifully uniform in shape and size. After all that seems to be the most important criterion for supermarket fruit and veg. Decent flavour only gets in the way of these aims

Re: Get yer kit off!

Kit off or on, I did a dreadful thing today: I planted out the first dwarf beans and runner beans! They were just growing too big for the root trainers. I had to do the same thing a couple of days ago. I worked on the basis that they are either going to survive or not; and they certainly wouldn't h...

Re: New Website - What do you think?

I have an idea! Start again - remove the old posts (from before a year ago maybe)? We are a small forum & have supported this site to keep it alive but KG (which is a much better mag btw) isn't capturing these people that look but for some reason are scared to post. Or ask these viewers (not us...

Re: New Website - What do you think?

Anyway, I stumbled across the forum when I was looking for the answer to a question. I wasn't overly aware of it because of the magazine. So, how many subscribers do you have? I suspect it's many thousands? Why are they not part of the forum? I think it because subscribers don't know how to access ...
