Re: New Gardening prog.

SSD (need to see your pic) - our plot already at risk - latest offer is we move over the border into Hampshire to 2 split plots about 2 miles from each other....hmmm?? Will have to browse the allotment act (although I do have faith in the committee) as I know distance is mentioned am not sure they c...

Re: New Gardening prog.

Oh No! I can feel the waiting list increasing again! Lots of pressure on us again to 1/2 our plots to meet demand until it goes back to what it is now with all the new faces who were so inspired initially disappeared & the rest of us left surrounded by unkempt plots & rubbish!

Great! :( :(

Re: App

Actually found one free from Mr Fothergill's & it's location specific with first & last frost dates which you can adjust. The only thing against it is it is all alphabetical with fruit, herbs & veges all together in a big long list but is all by month. It's a start though & I'm sure ...

Probably nothing to get excited about Shallot Man - their family cars were most likely underwater! :) :)

App

OK not the right forum maybe but will argue is technical! Can anyone recommend an app for my phone that will give me a UK planting guide / calendar? Have lots of lovely hard copy ones from magazines but either snails or mice like to nibble them so don't last long in the lottie shed! Neither did my w...

Re: Short on space to grow?

Well Alan that's quite re-assuring for the future - very far future! I might have to consider rice as a crop though in the short term if this lovely weather continues though! Nah! Might just remain optimistic, although got an e-mail from my potato supplier saying they are breaking dormancy earlier s...

Re: 'Climbing' winter squash

Quite like Queensland Blue for sweet flavour as well Primrose - very similar to Crown Prince in flavour but slightly less watery. Needs a reasonable Summer - oh and a pick axe to get into it as more ribbed! Still easier than the ones I got seed from the States though - Chicago Warted; needed TNT to ...

Re: Sodden here.

People never fail to amaze do they? Do the insurers pay out to fools? Generally in my area most of the main roads are open, although the one or two that are flooded are making a major impact! The caravan site is going to be flooded again tonight by the look of it but most haven't even got back there...

Re: 'Climbing' winter squash

If your structure is strong enough you can grow any squashes / pumpkins upwards! My best Crown Prince was climbing up my neighbour's pallet compost heap, as well as 2 or 3 butternuts!

Re: Beans and wind

I can vouch for the Asafoetida & it is easy to find & has a mild onion flavour so doesn't affect taste! It is used in Indian cookery for that very reason so not just Jerusalem Artichokes.

Monica - I did the same! My rhubarb is well established so thought 'why not!' I've never forced before so a bit hit & miss, and if it fails I have 2 other plants!
