I think as a new poster to an established forum, you have no idea of what the contentious issues have been previously, and if you unwittingly post anything that sparks everyone off (thinks; organic, cat poo.....etc!)you may never post again! Whilst I think some of the spats are hilarious, I realise ...

I know what you mean by OH having a 'to do' list! Since taking on the allotment, I come home with an ever growing list of 'manly' jobs for him to do, sawing down tree stumps, taking apart pallets(grotty job, I tried and split most of the wood into unusable pieces )It's worse because he is a joiner,...

We get free pallets from a local wood firm that receive MDF loads on large ones. Luckily they are made from 8' by 4' lengths of wood! So far OH has constructed me a dual compost bin (see below, lovingly painted by kids! This photo was taken before we tided up, honest!) and I'm after a load for raise...

The raspberries I inherited on my little plot (still being cleared, 8 trips to the local dump now...)appear to be autumn fruiting, but they are very small, and the area is festooned with couch and dandelions. I am tempted to move them later on to a well prepared weed free bed, being loathe to scrap ...

Identity crisis...!
Lurking in amongst a load of brambles on my new plot, I found several rusted objects that I thought looked a bit like man-traps! I put them aside, and was going to take them to the tip. Then I realised, they are a type of metal cloche support that you describe! These don't have a bottom bar, but are...

Fried green toms...
Didn't they coat theirs in egg and breadcrumbs in that film? I haven't tried it, but it could be nice?

Small Shining Light watermelons; how big do they get?
Has anyone tried growing Small Shining Light watermelons before? Mine look like the foliage is starting to dry up and die, but the fruits are only a bit bigger than tennis balls; is this as big as they get, or have I mucked up? They are in my greenhouse, and have never dried out, everything else I'm...

I feel the need to defend 'my' little goats!!! I used to live near smallholdings, and one black and white goat was always escaping. I think he had arthritis in his knees as he was always either kneeling or standing supporting his weight on the fence. One night I could hear some noises near the livin...
