Goji Berries

Hi, Have been browsing the net and come across Goji berries - plants can be bought and they seem to be he 'in' wonder fruit. The plants are frost and drought resistant and easy to grow - seem to good to be true. Just wondered if anyone has tried them and what pests etc they may be susceptible to. An...

thanks Primrose, I'll have one more attempt with soaking first. This year seems to have caught me out. I kept on thinking the nights were still cold and we may dip into a frost and now the ground is like iron and in clods which are really hard to break up. Trouble is I am still sowing as in previous...

Butter nut germination

Hi everyone, Having read the earlier topic on parsnip germination I am wondering if I should soak the butternut seed since I have had no luck with earlier sowings. Should I wait until the first white root appears or put in damp compost after soaking overnight. Re parnips will try the soaking on kitc...

Thanks - will get in asap and keep some fleece handy. T&M did send instructions but general and with the usual advice if unable to plant immediately.... Never sure if this applies to weather or personal circumstances!

Now I know why I was never a teacher! What I was trying to say, really badly, was that my summer raspberries appear to have fruited in late Sept/October on this year's canes which I thought would be bearing the fruit next year. As they are muddled up with the autumn fruiting it looks as if all the c...

Thanks all,
Will try again this evening with all the suggestions, have decided not to be a slave to organic on this one and will put a few pellets down under the fleece to protect the birds.
Bye

Carrots - not germinating

Hi, Has anyone had the problems I have been having with trying to get some carrots this year! My parsnips are up but no carrots and this is on the second sowing attempt of both Early Nantes and Autumn King. I thought I made sure not to sow too deeply. Having moved from a light soil to green sand/cla...

Hi,
I always worry once the cow parsley is in flower (ie now!) but there can be several generations of fly each year. To avoid the worst of the attacks sow in early spring and then early summer to miss the first generation of flies hatched in spring.
Hope this helps

Hi,
As far as I can remember I was advised to avoid getting comfrey tea on your skin. True of any concentrate I suppose.

Hi,
As far as I am aware the most dangerous time is when the cow parlsey is in flower, round here it is just about now. I would put collars on and hope for the best.
Good luck
