I Have alweays fancied using green manure but never been brave enough to have a go.
Does it grow back once you have dug it in? and how long does it take to rot down into the soil.
Thanks

Re: plot allocation
Hi All, all newbies are offered a half plot with a years probation, we have 3 letters too. I think where we are falling down a bit is our probation period is too long, I think that maybe we need to look at making it 6 months, even in the winter when the weather is not too good there is always someth...

Re: plot allocation
We have a waiting list of about 9 and I must admit I find it a bit frustrating when a new person arrives, then does the very bare minimum to keep the plot and finally dissapears some years or months later leaving the plot in a worse state than when the took over. Another person could have had the pl...

Hi All, I have just taken on the role to allocate plots to new members. My question is does your society have a check list to ask potential new members or if somebody applies do they get offered offer of the first avilable plot. Perhaps you have a selection process. I am sure all associations have d...

Hi Johnboy,
thanks for your reply, I have some well rotted manure so that is an option. Any idea's about growmore, fish blood and bone or seaweed ectract.
I am cautious as to what I use because I do not want to lose the whole grop due to forking.
Thanks

myxomatosis
Hi All, over the last couple of years our allotment in Derbyshire has become over-run with rabbits. Most plotholders have at considerable expense fenced in their plots to avoid everything being eaten. Measurs have been taken to try to reduce the population all to no avail. Two weeks ago myxomatosis ...

Re: sick cucumber
I grow or try to grow Zeina which are expensive. Beetroot are easy, soak the seeds for 10 mins prior to planting (seeds have a natural germination inhibitor coating the seeds and soaking helps to reduce this) grow in a cell,. several seeds to a cell with then prick out into final place when you have...

Thanks

sun loving iris
Hi All,
I have some sun loving iris's in my garden which have not flowered for the last 2 years and it looks like there are not going to be any this year either.
Any idea's, do they need dividing?, when is the best time to divide, or do they just need some fertlizer.
Thanks
Tracie

Re: Can you believe it? Wacky garden tips
Crush some extra strong mints and lay the resulting powder on top of the soil when you plant your pea seeds.
The smell of the mints means the mice cannot find the pea seeds.
I have tried this and it works

FIRES
Hi All,
Fires have become a hot topic on our allotment recently, a ban has been put in place because of a complaint from a nearby house.
I thought I would have a straw poll and find out what is and is not allowed on your allotments with regards to fires.
Thanks for your help
