Re: Problems at our plot.

Is your site managed by the local council or do you have a committee that answer into the council?. How do you manage to pay the council rent if you have vacant plots?. On ours we manage the site on behalf of the Council who come and visit once a year to make sure we are doing a good job. We have on...

Re: Cropping "problems"

I have had the same problems with my peppers for the last couple of years. This year I read somewhere that if you mix a bit of lime in with the compost for the peppers it should stop the tip from rotting. I have done this for the peppers this year and have had no problems at all, not sure quite what...

GARLIC PROBLEMS

Hi all, I sourced my garlic from a good supplier and planted it out in good open ground in October. Having looked at it the other day I decided to dig some up, and to my dismay some of it had bolted and some of it has not divided into cloves. Can I still use the bolted ones with the centre removed? ...

Re: Gardeners World

I think they are missing a big opportunity. On this forum there is a huge amount of gardening know how. We could all take turns and do a 10 minute slot about our real gardening experiences, tips, and mony saving ideas. We do not have the cash of the BBC, we cannot afford to plant 5 of this and 10 of...

Gardeners World

Hi All, Am I the only one who has given up watching Gardeners World. Not enough Veg content despite the face that vegetable seeds out sell flowers. Monty Don filling his garden with 8 of this or 10 of that paid for by the BBC. Poor Carol showing us yet again how to take a hard wood/soft wood cutting...

Re: celeriac

Hi All, thanks for all of the replies. Looks like it is not an easy crop to grow. I have a good pile of well rotten manure, I think I will dig in a load of that and water frequently through the season and keep my fingers crossed. Still a bit confused about which leaf's you should remove and why. Tha...

celeriac

Hi All, having recently wasted my cash on a celeriac from Tesco which had no taste and a horrid spongy consistancy I thought I would give it a go myself and grow a few. Has anybody any tips on variety, germination, soil conditions, watering and anything else one would need to know to grow a sucessfu...

Re: GEE-UP on the menu

A well known supermarket was selling rump steak the other week as sirloin steak.

Suprise suprise sirloin is more expensive than rump.

This just about says it all

Re: Postal charges

I hate with a vengance going to my local post office. The woman who runs it is consistantly grumpy and unhelpfull and everything is always too much trouble. There is always a queue and no customer service Also they charge me more to post the same thing as they do at the post office near my allotment.

Re: Lawn Food

Hi, I have heard that if you mix some tomato ketchup in your dogs food then the lawn does not go brown, I do not have a dog so have not tried it. Last year I used some growmore on my lawn with very good results, being white and granular it is easy to spread and you can see where you have been. Will ...

Plot Rents

Hi All, our local parish council has put our plot rents up again, therefore we are left with no choice but to pass on the increase to our members. Have your councils put your rents up for the 2013 season, and if so have you passes on the increase to your plot holders. What is the costs on the plot r...

Blown Brussel Sprouts.

Hi All, for the second year on the trot my Brussel Sprouts have blown and are totally useless. I have today pulled them all out and added them to the compost. I Firmed the ground well prior to planting and I am now wondering of I should grow another variety. I Do not know which ones I grew this year...

Re: Yeeee-Haaaa, look what I had delivered.

What a happy lot we are to see a pile of manure. I have even experienced manure envy when other plot holders are having a delivery and I have none.

There are times when the simple things are the best things :D
