Re: KG delayed?

Thank you very much for your suggestion and such kind offer, West! Our village shop is still getting onto the wholesalers to try and get a copy, but I will come back if that is not successful.

Re: KG delayed?

Thank you all. It's very tempting to subscribe but I want to give our village shop as much business as possible to help it survive! Would try Morrisons, snooky, but it would take me about and hour and a half to walk there and back - so I will wait and hope it will arrive in our shop. At least, I now...

KG delayed?

Our village shop can't get the current KG magazine - the wholesaler tells him it is running late this month. WHSmith had no copies either this morning. Anybody else having problems?

Re: Late Summer Bis and Bobs.

It's interesting to read your sun verdict for this month, Geoff. I exchange my monthly weather data with somebody else in the village who has an electronic weather station and solar panels. And he wrote this morning that, although August wasn't brilliant, this summer has been very productive, solar-...

Re: Late Summer Bis and Bobs.

Our Virginia creeper is starting to lose its first leaves. And yesterday I pulled up and composted all the broccoli plants, but what a harvest we had from them!

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Yesterday's sunshine brought out the butterflies: small tortoiseshell, peacock, red admiral, wall brown, comma and lots of large and small whites. Alas, today it's warm but completely overcast again, so no more of them. At least there are lots and lots of different bumblebees, especially on the teas...

Re: Shredders

Looking at it, I think the design lends itself to a cassette system, where different cutting mechanisms are used for different material. The teeth against an anvil is good for woody material but a mechanism like a paper shredder would work better for leaves. What a good idea, Stephen. We have a shr...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

I was lucky to be able to retire at 53 and have never regretted it. I loved my job and thought I would miss the people, the buzz and the commute by train through lovely countryside, but, 30 years on, I still know I made the right decision. So, go for it, Westi and count down the days, retropants!

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Retropants, so sorry to hear about your tomatoes (and your toe!). That must be awful, to lose the whole crop. Will you grow so-called blight resistant ones next year? Our butterfly tally has been dire this year: lots of large and small white, but only the occasional red admiral, peacock, small torto...

Re: I have to supress my feelings...

When we had two abandoned plots on our small site, the other tenants scythed/strimmed the weeds, simply to avoid all the weed seeds blowing over everybody else's plot. It also meant that anybody new wouldn't be TOO put off by the sight of a jungle!
