Raised beds versus Open ground?

Is growing in raised beds better than the open ground? Do you have any strong opinions on either?
We have Bob Sherman and Edwin Oxlade discussing this topic in the March issue of Kitchen Garden and we would like to add a few opinions from the forum users :D

Heritage versus new varieties

We have a new feature starting in the January issue of Kitchen Garden where a topic is debated by Bob Sherman and Edwin Oxlade. We would like to include a few comments from readers. The first topic to be aired is Heritage varieties versus new varieties. Do you think it is important we keep all the o...

I got ahead of myself as usual I was actually thinking comments were being made on what I had only just written for the February issue- Taking on a new plot . I wrote this a few weeks ago but it has yet to go to press! We get very confused here on Kitchen Garden working so far in advance. In my mind...

NOT bad advice. A new person taking on a VERY rough allotment for the first time needs all the help they can get. We did say in the article it is best to remove the worst of the woody growth and then spray before cultivating but even then you won't get rid of all the weed growth. It is going to take...

Just to let everyone know we do an annual index in Kitchen Garden which appears in the December issue. I should know having had the job of going through every issue last year and making a note of topics and page numbers.

Hi Lady Lettuce, Being my normal thick self I didn't realise that you were Lady Lettuce. I can now put a face to you. Do you think that I live up to my Avatar? Some say the Avatar is more lifelike! Sincerely, JB. A lovely big hearted softie springs to mind. Whoops sorry have I blown your hard Avata...

Malvern lunch

Just wanted to say thank you all for a wonderful lunch on Sunday. It really was rather special meeting you all and putting faces to names. Captain Carrot also wants to say thanks but he is rather busy at present and in a panic because he has forgotten to include the infamous KG subject index that go...

Kitchen Garden needs YOU

Hello you lovely lot on the KG forum. I thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm Captain Carrot's (editor of KG) sidekick. I sit next to him and kick him if he nods off! Actually it's the other way round. Anyway I am after some victims, sorry volunteers, who would like to be special contributors...
