Re: A mini rant

Hear hear from me too. Most annoying. I usually slit the top of the offending packets with my penknife.

Re: My worst ever vegetable growing mistakes

We had a labelling problem too! I have always meticulously put labels in everything, as I know I won't remember which is what. Ken, on the other hand, thought he would remember. He didn't. We used to have interesting rows of mixed brassicas those first couple of years we had the allotment... If he d...

Re: Planting Plan

My husband is obsessed with growing cauliflowers so the brassica bed always fills up, as he grows several different varieties to see us through the year. (I still have lots in the freezer and we give lots of them away to grateful family and friends) Consequently, we end up with brassicas slotted in ...

Re: Courgettes

Thank you Dear OH. There was one fruit on one of the plants, which I removed when I noticed it...it was about pinkie finger size.

I will try the foliar feed though. What should I use? Would Tomato feed be alright or would Liquid Growmore be better, do you think?

Courgettes

Well, for the first time in the ten years we've had our allotment, it looks like I won't have to worry about what to do with "all these courgettes" this year. For some reason, my four plants just haven't thrived at all. They were lovely, healthy plants when I planted them out five weeks ag...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

No Barney, you are most certainly not on your own! And it's not just as I've got older either.... I have always objected to being a captive audience to other people's music for sure. As soon as we get a nice summer day, there is always some idiot who throws open their windows and turns their music u...

Re: Cats get i to some strange situations!

Hi Plumpudding. I had the same problem with birds getting into the greenhouse through the automatic vent. I was really upset to find a dead sparrow in there a few summers ago. I solved the problem by covering the whole of the window with wire mesh, so even when the automatic vent opened it fully, th...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

I have a real peeve about noise and it would be so much worse If I lived in the country as I love the sounds of nature. So, when I'm on the allotment, I like the tranquillity, the birdsong, bees buzzing and the grasshoppers zzzz-ing. I used to work in Morrisons, where I was forced to listen to piped...

Re: Cats get i to some strange situations!

I saw that too, on Facebook....the look on the pilot's face when he sees the cat is priceless! My previous cat, Tibby Puss, had a thing about my son's bags/rucksacks. He was in the RAF then, based at Lyneham and had been home on leave for a couple of weeks. He duly packed his stuff into his huge hol...

Re: Strawberries

That is very interesting! When we grew our strawberries...Cambridge Favourites...in the soil on the allotment, we had so many problems and never had a decent crop. Our soil is basically heavy though it is much lighter now, after all the good muck that has been added over the years. After a couple of...

Thanks Monika....I was thinking along the right lines then, regarding bolting onions wanting to get their seeds sorted out!

I had forgotten they are biennial.
