Well it seems to be working :)

Re: Good old days

Can anyone recommend an effective organic bug killer? What bugs do you want to kill? Cabbage white caterpillars can be killed with a bacteria, Bacillus thuringiensis . Smaller pests such as aphids or red spider mite can be parasitised or preyed upon. "Smaller fleas have lesser fleas upon their...

Re: Bayer Organic Bug Clear is it any good? URGENT please

Dad used to spray the plants with a can of water with a tablespoon of salt to get rid of caterpillars. . Lol, funny you should mention that. After my trip to the garden centre proved fruitless I Googled some more and came across the salt water theory and so yesterday I made some and then sprayed al...

Bayer Organic Bug Clear is it any good? URGENT please

Okay guys, I have to go and get some organic pest killer to use in the school polytunnel this morning! We have tiny caterpillars. I've googled and come across Bayer Organic Bug Free which has had very good reviews BUT it doesn't list caterpillars as a specific pest. Has anyone used this stuff and is...

Re: Good old days

I even found tiny caterpillars on the chilli plants at school today and they are in the polytunnel! Not a sign of one or even an egg on the lettuce and kale seedlings! Thankfully a parent has some window screening which we can attach by velcro to the door frame, so we can open the door on hot days a...

Re: How far behind are you?

Hello and welcome Amy, I always sow my sweetcorn indoors and then transplant out (if that's what you mean ). I plant out at around 6"-10" high in quite close blocks and usually have several sowings. I plant mine about a foot apart in staggered rows and I plant 3 or 5 rows deep depending on...

Re: Will these cabbage seedlings thrive

My cabbages have been a total disaster this year but those at the school are looking pretty good - strange that as they are the same kind and grown in the same way I'm not going to bother with any more this year, as I don't really have room for brassicas in my veg garden but I do love fresh cabbage ...

Re: Where to post question on strawberry grape vine?

First of all, welcome to the boards vagabond. Secondly, I'd try the ' general ' section to start with, as I think that's the most commonly visited part of the forum and then take it from there. Unlike other forums, we don't have ' P ost Police ' telling you that you've posted your question in the wr...

VPM - stop boasting ! You're making the rest of us feel jealous ! Sorry Primrose, I'll take myself off to the corner and hang my head in shame Seriously though, don't give up hope. My climbing beans were looking very sorry for themselves but I have noticed signs of increased growth and the beginnin...

Re: Early summer bits and bobs

We've had some much needed rain over the last 36 hours and it looks like we may get some more today but the sun keeps trying to peep through. I could do with the rain holding off for another hour so that I can get my washing dry :D

Re: shiny green beetle

Saw a beautiful shiny, metallic green beetle yesterday, about the size of a shield bug - but much more attractive. It looked like it should have been a brooch. Does anyone know the name of it and is it a good beetle or a bad beetle? Possibly the Mint Beetle. Have a look on this site to see if you c...
