Re: Ye good olde days when......

Old wive's tale THAT WORKS!

go to the chemist and get some OIL OF CLOVES and pop the smallest ammount on the affecting tooth.

This should deaden the pain, but only apply the tinyest ammont.

Re: pickling beetroot

Why not try a jar of each? But whatever you do, keep the beets out of any light or they go a disgusting brown colour.

Re: JONOGOLD Apple.

Grasp an apple gently but firmly and lift it up. If it comes away from the branch easily then it's ripe and ready. If it doesn't want to leave the branch, slowly lower the fruit into the original position and try again in a few days.

Re: Organic control of Allium "White rot".

I grew a reduced number of garlic(s) this year due to white rot. I found that the hard necks fared far better than the soft necks. Next year I'll grow just hard necks.

Re: Even more cynical

I thought the government was 'backing off' and letting 'charities' take over the financial aspect and only jump back in when there is any back slapping to be received. Especially in the way of health care. I wish I knew how to trace what official cars the 'big nobs' of charities drive and how much o...

OIl seed rape right across a footpath. Now harvested leaving a forest of hard stubble and ploughsoil. Rights of way warden informed but I'm not holding my breath. Bramble tendrils growing right across a housing estate pathway, council informed and as above I'm still not holding my breath. Tap replac...

Re: Cynical old me?

Shame on you, you aren't supposed to notice such things. It's like the government telling us they are spending X ammount on education and then tell us again and again and again and expect us to think it is quadruple the payment.

and you say YOUR cynical. . . . .

Re: Getting SO close, I can almost 'smell' it

Don't forget, if the plot is in such a state you may be able to refuse this plot and not have to go to the bottom of the list. You could ask for the council to do a lot of the heavy clearing if there are loads of rubbish left behind. There is a tendency to say yes, yes, yes. Then have second thought...
