Morrisons wine department who line up all their wines to look tidy and full on the shelves without making sure that the price below the wine belongs to the wine on the shelf. We made a raised bed last year and because our soil is very thin we dug up what we had, filled the bottom with manure and then put the soil back on. The result was, moles, lots of them because the soil was rich and easy to wriggle through they spent the whole time working through that bed and left a...

But to prick out seedlings it has to be bare hands. I used to use normal yellow kitchen gloves but the...

Hardening off in the Polytunnel
Can anyone tell me that if your seedlings grow in the polytunnel and are looking nice and healthy. i.e. Broad beans. Do I need to harden them off by placing outside for a few days before planting in the beds. It is cold in there and they are looking really healthy so I am not sure what to do. These ...

I know what you mean about being disturbed and not getting back to sleep Chantal. We have a chap who is obviously on a shift job because at 5.15am every other week he drives up our road on a 50cc trail bike without a silencer. It sounds like an angry bee and he doesnt go very fast. He wakes me up ev...

My mother in law has a problem with two neighbours cats because when the people are away she has to feed the cats so they are used to coming in to the garden. Her soil is very light and once she starts to get it ready for planting the cats move in to use it as a loo. She uses Renadine ?? Not sure if...

Propagator - please help
I have a propagator which only needs plugging in and there is no temperature gauge so I dont know what temperature it runs at. The problem is that I have no instructions and I have no idea what to do with it. There is a felt sheet in the bottom. Do I wet it? Or fill it with compost or just put the t...

I managed to persuade myself that it would be better not to plant out my broad beans yesterday and I am really glad I did after the cold night. -3.8 in my garden overnight. They are outgrowing their pots so I think I will repot tomorrow and wait a few more days. But we did put our potatoes in yester...

We got up to about an inch of snow this morning and my granddaughter was thrilled so we decided to go out for a walk. Walked from Paythorne where there was no snow, much to my granddaughters disappointment. We had a wonderful walk of about five miles and got caught in the snow five minutes before we...
