I have used seaweed when there is a lot washed up on the beach mainly in my compost beds and as dressing on beds plants grew ok. Cant answer your specific questions though Westi

How about the money saved from gym membership (£hundreds) as opposed to allotment fees (£tens).

Free fresh air as oppose to supermarket air conditioning.

What ever you do Retropants will work as long as you enjoy it.

There is an 80+ chap like you that digs his double plot and would not have it any other way.

Not sure if you know so apologies if repeating the obvious: You do not need a border for your raised bed You can walk on the compost You can plant into the compost straight away no need to leave it for six months. "Then leave it uncovered for a while, and put a thick layer of compost/manure ear...

Had plenty of sunlight as was in centre of plot warm soil should have been ok as was inside a could frame that was on a raised bed.

Any idea what the temp the soil should be?

Growing them in cold frame as mentioned in earlier post was a failure, lots of green leaves on top just thin roots.

Had better result using buckets in the past.

Had builder doing some work and he had a huge collection of Makita battery tools. Said Makita are made by black & decker.

Interesting to note they use different voltages up to 56v which are downward compatible

Hi Tanzy good start... have you checked out "square foot gardening" also veg in one bed by Huw Richards square foot should be availble in libray not sue about other one. Try ebay as well for good prices.
