Re: Is vegetable grow an art or simply a hobby?

I would say it is an art and a hobby (and a skil and accomplishment)

I wouldn't call it an art like painting or music, more like martial arts or sports.

But thats just my opinion

Re: shop garlic growing?

thanks JB. Thats almost exactly what I did. Only mine ended up later in, about Feb... I wish I'd got it in a bit sooner. Hopefully I'll do better this year. I'll put it in with my autumn onions. To be honest, I trust what you say a LOT more than I do Mr Flowerdew, you backup what you say with experi...

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2016.

Hi jb

For some unknown when I get a frost the soil goes really stodgy and needs a good dig to sort it out. To be honest its probably got more to do with the extra rain ect before the frost

Snow doesn't seem to cause a problem though :/

I love autumn :) the garden doesn't lol. My soil hates frost

Although I did get a pack of autumn planting onion sets, so I need to clear a bed, and try them out

Re: Heat vs light?

heat... They will keep growing for longer in the dark than in the cold from my experience.

However, prepare yourself for a small crop this year. I've not seen many people do well with water melon this year

I dont know about any practical application, but garlic always seems to sprout well in the fridge. So maybe there is something to it
