Re: Cooking apples

Hello Sally, I always value your opinion so I am sure Steve Ott will too. I hadn't heard of Peasgood nonsuch, just had a quick Google to look it up. Sounds delicious. I think he is going to be hard pushed to choose from so many varieties available now we are spoilt for choice. Too late for me to be ...

Cooking apples

In the Nov. issue of TKG, The Three Muskateers, Bumper Harvest. Steve Ott has asked for our favourite cooking apple. Mine is Rev Wilks. This is a delicious all round cooking apple one which I find far superior to the Bramley. Cooks lovely fluffy apple sauce, many desserts as well as pies etc. Large ...

Re: Blight free tomatoes.

Normal salad size Primrose.

Cherola is the cherry one I grow but even that gave up to the blight this year which it hasn't done before. But I have to say always having been a fan of GD. this one is an even better flavour and doesn't split so easily.

Re: Blight free tomatoes.

Pleased to hear you are still blight free Monika. All my tomatoes are started off in the greenhouse but then grown on the allotment unprotected, so I am very pleased with this new variety - so far! still cropping well to.

Blight free tomatoes.

Of all my tomatoes that have now succumbed to the blight including Ferline and Fandango the one still free and showing no signs of it is a new one from Kings I tried this year Mountain Magic F1. Very tasty and is also keeping well in a bowl in the kitchen. A definite must for next year.

Re: Celariac hollowed out?

I think lack of moisture might be the reason for hollow celeriac. This is the first year mine have not grown as I've not be able to water as well as I should in the long dry spells. Potatoes that grow very large have tendency to be hollow inside to through lack of moisture to.

Re: Keeping carrots

Good tip Pawty. Thanks. I would think the paper absorbs excess moisture which does happen in plastic bags.

Re: Bargain Basement

Definitely not a bargain. I see Kings no longer give us members any discount on their seed tapes. £1.20 last year, now £1.95 same as their main catalogue. I've had very good success with the carrots and parsnips but might have to think again.

Re: Break-ins.

Yes, I am sure it was nicked to replace one. Probably a broken one or someone was doing a DIY job building a greenhouse. Either way it was the lowest of the low.
