I keep trying to set the clock to the correct GMT time in my profile - but it keeps going back to GMT+3.5?

blasted beetles

Just found 5 lily beetles munching away on my fritillarias (sp?). I have duly savagely squashed the little blighters. Is there no stopping them? Have sprayed with bug spray so hopefully that will help. They've never eaten the fritillarias before, only the lily plants. Do they eat everything now?

I usually worm my chickens in the autumn - using a product called Flubenvet. It is now a prescription only medicine - so you'll need to get one from a vet - or Interhatch will be able to supply you with the Flubenvet, as they are able to prescribe. It's a powder which you measure out and mix in with...

Long sleeves for me - got too many scratchy plants in my garden. I cannot, however, wear gardening gloves - it's just not proper gardening if you can't feel the muck underneath your fingernails

Yes - I had a leghorn hen who was top of the pecking order and she crowed her head (or should that be comb and wattles) off. She also laid an enormous number of eggs. I didn't have a cockerel so perhaps that had something to do with it.

shall I open it?

Just received an e-mail from someone called Charlotte Park from Kitchen Garden - something about 'Kitchen Garden grow healthy campaign' with an attachment. Is this real? or a virus
Haven't dared to open it, just in case.

I raise chickens, using an incubator and also broodies. It's quite easy as long as you learn all you can before you start. Very important - you need to make sure you have the relevant manufacturers instruction manual for the incubator (what make and model is it?). Follow all the instructions for tha...

Yes - 'Diseases of Free-Range Poultry' is a fantastic book - albeit a bit scary

Another good book is 'The Complete Encyclopedia of Chickens' by Esther Verhoef and Aad Rijs.

Oh good heavens - I think I'll stay in bed where it's safe.

Or does someone have a terrible tale about the dangers of staying in bed all day?

Chantal - I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles and hope you are soon feeling happier.

I enter loads of competitions too - but I've never won anything either.

However, I entered a poultry club on-line raffle this year (www.pekinbantams.com) and won a fabulous incubator - so you just never know.

I have three hens in the back garden too. They are in a run with small weldmesh sides to stop any wild birds hopping through and weldmesh on the top with a partially covered area. We have prepared the plastic panels to fit onto the roof of the run, if there is an edict from on high that says they sh...
