Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Yes OH Wednesday was 39.4mm and we already have 15.2mm today but it does seem to be easing. Quite strange to have a couple of low flying Chinooks come out of the clouds and fly by just above eye level across the valley.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Had my annual trailer load delivered on Saturday from the local Young Farmers charity Muck Haul. £50 to good causes and this year a huge pile of good stuff. Sunday and Monday I dug the only two beds that I intend to dig, one I call 3 legumes (sweet peas, broad beans, runner beans) and one for peas. ...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Nice to have some dry weather for a change even though the wind was rather cutting. Had a long overdue big bonfire, that overdue it included the Christmas tree and wrapping paper!

Thanks for those comments. All seems well, operation went to plan and issues were anaesthetic reaction which she has had after previous operations.

Thanks for that OH.
Perhaps today's present will be collecting my wife from hospital. Had her keyhole hysterectomy on Tuesday but wasn't very well yesterday when she was supposed to come home, hopefully better news this morning. Still got the 70 mile round trips for radiotherapy to come.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
This is a photo I took in February 2020. There is a soil warming cable underneath and the one you can see round the sides both controlled from the one rodstat. The front boards lift out for access mostly removed in the photo, they are painted white on the inside like the rest of the structure. It is...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Yes OH I use a couple of growing bulbs and I really like them. They are compact fluorescents - 2 x 125W that I use 5-9 morning and evening at the moment. I've briefly looked at LEDs because I thought I could reduce my power consumption but it didn't prove economical to swap them. There is another di...

You have my sympathy having just been down that road. Still sorting out as garage spelt my name wrong on the road tax payment.

I thought hyacinth too but was a bit confused by the multiple shoots. Put it back in or in a pot and wait and see!

Have a good day, you deserve it. Perhaps the birthday good fairy will have delivered a new shed when you get back to the plot.

Re: Mycorrhizal Fungae
I wouldn't have thought you needed it for tomatoes. I think I've seen it on TV (probably Chris Beardshaw on Beechgrove) that using leafmould is almost the same effect and a lot cheaper. I make all my potting composts using leafmould in place of peat.

No spawn yet but water "boils" with frogs when you walk past the pond (but no sign of a yeti).

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Clive shouldn’t have mentioned Skoda, brought back the horror month I’ve just had. The day my wife had a doctors’ appointment I went to the car and found the clutch pedal of my beloved Skoda flat on the floor. Thought it something simple so got it taken to an outfit that do clutches and brakes and t...
