Re: Hello - and the first of many stupid questions

Hi The collection you've bought is Glen Cova, Malling Jewel and Tulameen from the link you gave us. I think these are Summer (rather than Autumn)fruiting varieties. If I'm right you shouldn't get fruit this year. In fact if they do flower, my advice would be to nip off the buds as they appear. Maybe...

Re: When to remove bubblewrap

Thanks for the comments. The growhouse is in the Southwest corner of the Greenhouse so the light is as good as it can be. I'm going to remove the lengths of bubble wrap from the glass next to the growhouse and just accept the reduction in insulation. I have a thermostat set for 5C in the greenhouse ...

Re: Truck wreck.

Alan Seems true then. The thing that made me think it wasn't was the firemen standing between the wreck and the edge. Absolutely no need to do that and fireman aren't foolhardy (or they don't stay firemen for long!). Having looked again it may be that the long lens has foreshortened the view so much...

Re: Truck wreck.

That'll be the answer then!! Did he eat them or throw them into the canyon to break his fall?

Re: Truck wreck.

Good picture but I have to say - good digital manipulation. I can't believe that the two guys standing next to the truck are really at the top of a cliff. Sorry to be a spoilsport but........

When to remove bubblewrap

I'm wondering just how much light bubblewrap "double glazing" in a greenhouse absorbs. I've now got aubergines and tomatoes at the seed leaf stage. They are on the shelves of a small plastic growhouse in the greenhouse with a heated propagator in the base which keeps the inside of the grow...

Re: Keith Singleton compost

Hi Monika As I said I've no complaints. He must buy in most of the ingredients of his composts because there is no local supply of peat. Having said that, I guess virtually all suppliers must do the same. On his site he has the usual greenhouses etc and a large packing plant and piles of peat, grit ...

Re: Advice for using heated propagator mat

I've taken Peter's advice and bought a plastic covered "Growhouse". It was £14 as an offer in a garden centre, which I thought was OK. It's a bit bigger than Growbag size and has 4 shelves. It's in the greenhouse and I've put the propagator on the bottom shelf, which is about 4" above...

Re: Keith Singleton compost

Hi Monika Keith Singleton is based about 2 miles from me. I've used his products for years and have found them to be good. He runs a setup which is both wholesale and retail. I bought some escallonia from him years ago and when I went to pick them up he refused to let me have them because they weren...

Re: Plastic Watering Cans

Hi JB

Good advice. I'll take note. I don't think I've done any harm up to now because the butt was new just before the winter and I only collect off the greenhouse glass but it will be tap water from now on. (There's never a shortage here!)

Re: Plastic Watering Cans

Hi JB Do you mean impurities which have come in the rain or impurities (like moulds) which have developed in the water butt, maybe from the rain running down the roof? Bird droppings etc. I can see why you might not want to use the water in a closed environment like a greenhouse but can't see why yo...

Re: Plastic Watering Cans

JB

Why don't you use water from the water butt for anything other than the lawn? Is there something wrong with using it elsewhere?
