I have just spoken to my mum, I wasn't able to get to the allotment yesterday, as I was doing a craft fair. she told me she picked several cucumbers, one of which is 40cm long! they have gone bananas this year :)

I have mine in a large plastic pot as above. the blackbirds have never bothered with the few berries that are normally produced. until this year, I actually saw a juvenile bb sitting atop the bush eating the lot!

Lovely flower pics everyone! I have just renovated my main flower bed at home, so it is looking a wee bit sparse! I have chosen perennials loved by bees, so here's hoping :)

being veggie, my husband was never fond of vegetables (I think his parents used to overcook everything). On Sunday he said how delicious the cabbage was (homegrown) shredded and stir-fried with garlic (last year's Picardy Wight is still viable thank goodness) a little salt and lots of black pepper. ...

how about using the builders scaffolding mesh as a wind break Richard? you could create a type of 'beach style' wind break around the edge of a bed perhaps for bush beans etc. I think you'd have to be careful if you wanted a taller break, as if you have really bad wind (oops! ) then it might blow ov...

oh dear Richard! you'll need the kitchen garden bar, it is made with coffee and coffee is a natural deodoriser. it also has tea tree oil, which would help! I am always very careful with the comfrey water for that exact reason, the idea of getting some on me makes me a little queasy! we have a tap on...
