Re: A view of my garden

I have now moved all the tomatoes into the greenhouse, but will be under extra cover at night until the temperatures rise overnight.

Re: A view of my garden

The ones in the conservatory are romping away and are now needing support rather than being floppy.

Re: A view of my garden

I've been moving plants about and this struck me as something that could be of interest. All the tomato seeds were sown on the same day, on the left are some "spares" still in their modules(they will end up in pots) in the middle is one that was potted on, then after a few days put in the ...

Orchid help

Now I know this is a fruit and veg forum, but I'm hoping someone also grows fleurs...…………. We've had this Orchid for 2 or 3 years now and it's just started to flower again, my question is however about the "new plant" that is growing on the second flower spike. I believe it can be removed ...

Re: 2020 Spring Bits & Bobs

Morning, another drop in temps here and clear blue skies, overnight the temp dropped to 0.8 inside the greenhouse, but no sign of any frost outside. Seeds are growing outside, third sowing of peas are showing this morning, just the Parsnips that are slow to germinate. In the greenhouse I planted som...

Re: 2020 Spring Bits & Bobs

My two smallest Grandson get rid of the "sticky willie", so cleavers don't usually get to grow in my garden(though they are probably spreading the seeds everywhere in their play).

Re: Weed suppressing fabric

My Dad used old compost bags under paths long before I remember weed supressing materials were on the market, his theory was it starved the weeds of both water and light, it seemed to work.

Re: Greenhouse ventilation

As we all know heat rises, so you need to get some sort of roof exit for it, how are the top panels held in place and are they glass or polycarbonate, I can't quite tell from the photo.

Re: To line or not to line raised beds

I have put a weed membrane at the bottom of my beds with the idea of restricting invasive roots, I didn't bother lining the sides. The theory that it will help slow down the wood rotting doesn't stand up as the top and outside are exposed. A plant friendly wood treatment would work, those collars ar...

One of the pond plants has a flower on it, a Water Hawthorn, caught this bee having a rest on it today.

Re: Allotment.

Two reasons why I went for raised beds, no dig and ease of access and by growing in blocks broad casting the seed rather than in rows, I am using the space more efficiently. I bet if you worked out the percentage of lost space between your traditional rows, it's probably around 20 percent too.

Re: A view of my garden

Potted on some ridge cucumbers and butternut squashes from modules into bigger pots, getting low on multi purpose compost now, but most stuff will go into the greenhouse borders for their next move, so should be ok.

Re: A view of my garden

A few experiments going on in there, carrots and peas growing on the right, hoping for an earlier crop, the radish on the left seem to be all tops and no fruit, you can't win them all.
