Greenhouse ventilation for tomatoes

I have a 8x6 glass greenhouse which I plant up with mainly tomatoes. I have suffered from tomato leaf mould for the last two seasons. Ventilation is stated as being a deterrent for the mould. My question is at what overnight temperature does the forum recommend leaving the greenhouse door open. I ha...

Re: Recipes to use up apples

Hmm? Apple Pie has cream or ice cream to accompany, Cheddar is on the cheeseboard - one not both to follow your meal. Pickled red cabbage & hotpot - Hmm again! Wonder who first thought it would work? Probably all what was in the larder at the time & one of those moments! Actually thinking p...

Re: An apology for my bad manners - let me introduce myself

Hello, Jenny, and welcome to the forum! I have a strange memory of Salisbury: about 45 years ago, I spent 10 days in a very cold January at the Cold Research Centre outside the city and, on the evening before being put into isolation, I was slowly and quietly walking round the cathedral cloisters a...

Re: Recipes to use up apples

Don't tell me nobody has pickled red cabbage on their hotpot Never heard of that one robo! Is it a Northern habit? I gather it's a an old Yorkshire habit to eat cheddar cheese with apple pie, which I only discovered when a relative from that part of the world visited and exclaimed surprise that non...

Re: An apology for my bad manners - let me introduce myself

jajabee. Hi Jenny, welcome. You will find over time, to have a screw loose will become an advantage. I'll fit right in then. My trouble is that forum scrolling can become addictive. Hubby starts taking the mickey totally discounting the fact that his nose is glued to the desktop all day. Goose and ...

Re: An apology for my bad manners - let me introduce myself

Hi Primrose, nice to connect. I grow mostly the same things each year. Tomatoes, potatoes, climbing French beans, sweetcorn, carrots, kale, cabages, courgettes, onions, board beans, chard. A new one to me last year was broccoli rabe. Each year I juggle the wish to try new varieties with lack of more...

An apology for my bad manners - let me introduce myself

Hi I'm sorry, I jumped right in and posted a request for advice without an introduction. I'm Jenny, live in the south of UK near Salisbury . I've a third acre garden with ornamental section, fruit cage, greenhouse, orchard and my main love the veg plot. I'm sort of retired since April 16, now workin...

Re: Greenhouse disinfection/tomato leaf mould

I totally agree. IMO the powers that be will leave regulations alone, as it will be too complicated to disentangle, that is unless it benefits them. Cynical.... Yes maybe a tad. The upshot is that I won't have anything to combat my tomato leaf mould in the near future. I feel some spring cleaning co...

Re: Storing Seeds

I am so impressed with the methodically minded people on this forum. Being untidy and slightly scatty, my seeds tend to end up in scattered boxes tubs and piles in the garden shed. At least for half the year they are chilled! My problem is more of what to do with seed potatoes and asparagus crowns t...

Re: Greenhouse disinfection/tomato leaf mould

If you use bottomless pots JJB the plants should be able to get the benefit of new compost and grow through to access the water when they are larger. I use Vertex on the glass. I think last year was bad for moulds being dull and damp for half the season but it improved with a good late summer. Like...
