Re: What a great resource, but ...........
Hello Tony I suspect you are right about the social media aspect and my experience seems to be much the same as yours about such forums in general. Sounds like you've seen the same cat picture share as I have I shall plod away making my own posts and hope that some find them useful, interesting or i...

What a great resource, but ...........
Admittedly I have only been a member for a few months since Dec 2014 and winter months are not the busiest but I can't help thinking this forum board seems a great form of sharing information that is under utilised. There are over 3000 members registered but at the moment you could count on fingers ...

Thanks for the picture Peter
I now understand what you are doing whereas before I couldn't figure out why you were applying a Russian doll principle to gardening and building a shed to completely cover a shed

Re: T or D on spades?
Richard mentioned about plastic handles going brittle. Only time I have ever experienced a plastic D handle breaking was when I noticed a rat on a neighbours plot as it dived under a piece of carpet. Stealth was called for and as silently as I could I approached the carpet and watched the movement t...

Re: Sweet Potatoes
Thanks for the input Westi.
I understand that you can get quite a high yield off each plant so this year I will give a small number a try I think

Sweet Potatoes
Has anybody any experience of growing sweet potato slips. Since they do provide a tasty alternative to standard potatoes I am thinking of giving them a try but do not have the luxury of a polytunnel or space in the greenhouse. Have you gown them ? Success or failure? Undercover or open ground? Be in...

Nothing Ventured...................
as they say
Never tried it myself and not sure if garlic does sprout or not if kept in chilled conditions in the fridge with no soil warmth or surface sunlight to encourage it
Await to hear your results

Re: Burning Issues of the Day
Thank you Elaine , Right now the plot looks awful to me. Bare and awaiting my proper attention as soon as spring arrives. I confess I have thought about posting some pictures of how each section of my plot looked on the day I took each part over with a comparison of more recent pictures. Same applie...

Re: Burning Issues of the Day
OH, posting pictures on here is a little bit of a rigmarole but easy once you do it on a regular basis and can remember which bit you have to click next. Over the years I have found the method of uploading of pictures to different websites, and ease/difficulty of doing so, to be highly variable Are...

Re: Soil matters.
Westi is right about some types of garlic needing a cold snap to get it to form cloves As long as the ground is not excessively wet, so the cloves don't rot, they can be planted out from late autumn/early winter right through to March/April. As is the usual proviso this is subject to variety and loc...

The Job I hate Most On The Plot...............
Weeding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like painting the forth bridge. You know full well that the damn things, or their successors, will come back. When I look at photographs of when I took the plot sections on I know I am winning but it seems a never ending task that I find the most soul destroying p...
