Piccalilli - help

Does anyone have a really good recipe for piccalilli? I've just made a batch but had no end of problems as the specified amount of vegetables far exceeded the amount of vinegar and spices. I therefore had to go back and make another whole batch of vinegar and spices to cover the veg in the jars. I p...

Merry Christmas Everyone

I don't have email at home and finish work today, so I'd just like to say Merry Christmas to you all and thanks for being there in 2005.

I only have three chickens and they ALL sit together on the floor. Can't be pecking order with my bunch. I'll just accept that they're not very bright.

Hi Sue-the-recycler My henhouse is a garden shed which stands on bricks so they do go up a ramp, although to be fair they could hop in without one. Because they happily perch 3ft off the ground when they're outside I'm not sure your theory would work, but who knows, chickens are not the brightest bi...

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not alone, I thought maybe I had retarded chickens. My last chicks were a pair of Red Jungle Fowl who one day decided not to go to bed in their shed and spent the next three years living loose in my garden, with the nights spent 40 feet up a fir tree. Following a serious fox ass...

New Management

I'm getting very tired of all the offensive (and sometimes personal) postings concerning the staff of Mortens and the guys trying to sort out this website and forum. It's not so bad; sure there are teething problems, but can I remind you that it's not so long ago that everyone was banging on about t...

I have 3 girls, one each of Sussex Buff (large), Nankin Buff and Pekin Cuckoo (bantams) who are now 6 months old. They all lay eggs, are happy and healthy and love to sit on low and high perchs outside. However at night they all pile up in a heap in the corner of the shed in the straw and sleep ther...

I think it's great...

I've been using this forum now for a week and I think it's great. I thoroughly enjoyed the old forum but there were some very frustrating elements. I admit this new format has taken a little getting used to but I have and I love it. I particularly like being told when there are new messages on topic...

Coffee Grounds

I read somewhere last year that coffee grounds are an excellent deterrent to slugs if spread round the base of the plants. Brilliant I thought as we have the grounds from the percolator on a daily basis. Then, about a week later I read that the grounds do some horrible damage to the plants. I can't ...

I always add the insides of toilet/kitchen rolls. Egg boxes are good too. It's nice plain soft card and breaks down well. Used kitchen roll can also be chucked in if it's free of meat/chemicals.

Artists!

We could have tunes from:

Shallot Church
Artichoke Garfunkel
Billie (Maris) Piper
or
Britney (Asparagus) Spears

(Thanks to my friend Bob for these suggestions)

Come on guys, have a bit more of the Sprout Wine and get with the beat.
