Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.
Puts me to shame... no outside lights, no inside lights, no tree, have got some fake fir garlands across the beams and I hung up some Christmas cards this morning! Went to the tip, sorry, Civic Amenity Site, this morning and got rid of some 'bulky household waste' (in the bin with the purple sign pl...

Re: Coffee Shops
Pubs keep installing these fancy coffee machines (never touch it myself being a tea person)and they really should issue ear defenders for the noise they make and put on extra bar staff as they take so long to produce a scrappy little cup of coffee. Perhaps some entrepreneur had a bet on that he coul...

Re: Coffee Shops
It's very comforting to know I'm not alone in the world of confusion and bewilderment... and I was of course forgetting about the pressure from mobile phone shops and opticians who take all your money so that you have to visit the charity shops to dress yourself and the pound shop for whatever food ...

Coffee Shops
Is it me? In our relatively small town centre Jessops closed and became a coffee shop, Millets did the same and a wonderful little garden shop that had been open for over a century. That's three within a 30 second walk of each other. I went to the bank last week at 9.15am and all three coffee shops ...

Re: crop rotation
Heligan gardens in Cornwall keep runners in the same place as part of their design but they dress the ground heavily in winter, in their case with seaweed. I can't think of any disease in runners that would build up over time, anyone else think of anything?

Golly, a wish list if I won the million, after much thought it would have to be a new yard broom... a better laundry basket... and some of those bamboo woven cloches to keep the chickens off my young plants.

Re: How are your butterflies?
I'm getting a lot on apple windfalls, first the chicken have a go and then all manner of insect life appears. I've had the usuals plus an unusual which was a Jersey Tiger Moth. We took a pic and had to look it up to identify it as it shouldn't be here apparently! It is a moth which flies during the ...

Re: Twitch-based path bordering plot
I have a spot on my plot where there is couch grass in the path. Mowing keeps the top under control but it doesn't disappear. I have to dig well alongside that spot to get out all the runners knowing that I'll have to do it again and again... even though I try to keep a clear edge. I suppose you cou...

Hi Plumpudding, I too belong to the Heritage Seed Library. I would recommend anyone thinking of investigating how to save seeds to start with climbing french beans and tomatoes, (non-F1 hybrids) they are easy to do. I've taken growing favorites from the french beans a stage further and selected char...
