It should be OK.

If you cant find enough proper balls old tennis balls work very well, drill out the holes and they grip the canes very well.

Dont forget you can oven dry them: Half or quarter ripe tomatoes and place on a rack in a roasting tray. Sprinkle over some dried mixed herbs and some good maldon sea salt. The best late main crop I have ever grown, and have now grown it for a number of years, is Aran Victory. It makes the best roast spud .

Excellent flavour with fluffy insides and great crispy/crunchy skins.

I will be growing them yet again this year.
