Re: Kaffir Lime

Hi As you are familiar with them I would like to know if I bought one. It was in a charity stall with no label and the ladies didn't know what it was but it was healthy and about 3 ft tall and it looked like Kaffir to me. It has the double leaf and has quite a lot of spikes - is this the baby?? If n...

Re: cats,

Hi macmac I have that problem at home - not just my cats but the whole neighbourhood it seems. I expect they like the softer ground. The really simple thing I do that works is holly leaves scattered among the precious things. Pricks their little paws - God Bless and as it dries gets worse. I have al...

Re: Asparagus

Tracie Sorry to hear about your tools. We have had activity on the plot as well but weirdly only took our primus and my big bag of seeds. (really miffed about seeds as had all my friends pick stuff up on hols and had some unusual things to experiment with). We are suspecting someone on the plot as p...

CHIVES

Hi

Another question! My chives are really cracking this
year and are going into flower. Are they OK to let flower
or should they be nipped off so they don't drain the plant
resources?

Thanks Westi

CITRUS TREES

Hi

I have 3 citrus which have come through the winter well.
When I was chatting to someone they said that these
should always be watered with warm water. Has anyone
else heard of or doing this and what is the advantage - like
rain is cold wherever it is more or less isn't it?

Re: Asparagus

Hi Lucky me too - took some last week (just enough for a taster) but this week took over 30 spears. I do pamper my asparagus as I feel what I save by growing my own very nearly pays for everything else over the year. (Can you believe the price of bought spears!) They are 6 yrs old now so well establ...

Re: SWEET POTATOES

Hi I have potted on 19 slips from the 3 mother plants last week and although one looked a bit sick it has now perked up. There are some about a foot long and sprawling along the window sill. I put the whole sweet potato in a pot of compost in the propagator. I didn't think anything was happening as ...

Re: SPRING PROGRESS

Was down at Lottie today and it was fab - 17c! Finished planting the brassicas and making great progress peeling back the black plastic and attacking the couch grass. And the first earlies have popped their little leaves up already. Even had to water the overwintering broadbeans which are in flower....

Re: Snake

Mr Mervin Meerkat I look forward to your application with anticipation and am sure your recorder skills are sufficient but obviously will need to take up references prior to appointment. In the interim period due to expansion (the boys are down), there will be an opportunity for an apprenticeship. U...

Re: Snake

Hi Monika We are near the New Forrest and our site overlooks fields at the back where I am. The other side of the field is the railway embankment which is where the boys live coming down over the field to mate. The female had the back row to herself for ages as they only opened up the back row where...

Snake

Was down at lottie on the week end and our Adder is back, warming up beside the fence. She is OK (but is massive)and goes away when you near but the boys come down to mate with her and they are not so well behaved and stand their ground and even hissed at me and blocked the path to the shed. We have...
