Kevin, if they do put a photo on the site, we could have it enlarged and use it for scaring the wildlife ofF the allotment. It would be better then any scarecrow. I wouldn't want you lot organizing my funeral, thinking about it, if you did i would miss out on all your homemade food again. Have a gr...

I have some hazy recollection that an acre is supposed to be enough to grow all a family's vegetable needs for a year. Various acts of parliament limited an allotment plot to no larger than a quarter of an acre and I suspect that with organisation one could grow sufficient on that. It would probably...

Pace yourself with the digging, only do small amount per visit, certainly no more than an hour and build up to that during the digging season. Do you walk much? If not try regular walks as that will stretch the leg muscles. Do you have a desk based job? If so then the muscles get used to doing not v...

Quick someone warn Steve, this is typical of the first stage of Grock attacking, isolate the victim so it cannot call for help.

Poor man, he will be chained up on Grocks allotment till he is worn out.

Go to http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder.asp although you will need to know that correct Latin as it comes back with three latin names.

Once you go further it will list suppliers and locations.

I like this place and the people who visit it.

The nice things about this forum. It is compact, I tried Allotments 4 All and it is well nigh impossible to use as there are so many sub-forums and threads. GYO forum is similarly over-divided. It is serious about gardening and allied subjects. It allows a narural flow of conversation, as mentioned ...

Jeyes do a path cleaner, widely available (DIY warehouses), I've only used it once, so am unsure how long the effect will last, but it's kept it clear for three months at least.

Streps, no offence intended, hopefully all posters are trying to help. :D

What I was trying to point out, perhaps not as tactfully as I could have done is that I have seen the diddy ones and on a drive, the gas would run out after a few yards. :D

Paraphrasing its interesting that as there are no "guest" postings a lot of the sniping has stopped. I feel sure that most of it was from members hiding "guest". AND I will always engage in debate, even heated debate but will always be civil with it. Another member and I went fo...

Pol said " we have huge area of big shingle as a driveway " I weighted my answer accordingly. You can get bigger or smaller propane cannisters to go with what I suggested, up to the huge six foot tall ones seen at caravan parks, or pikey sites. I suspect the Lidl one is more suited to sort...

Ribena giving away blackcurrent bushes.

If you buy a tetrapak ready to drink Ribena and have a purple straw then you win (for the price of a stamp) a "Ribena Cutting".
