Hi Primrose,
I think the flower in question is Lisianthus known in the florists trade as Eustoma. Not sure of the foliage though.

Re: Fresh lawn clipping as mulch
Hi Geoff, We use our liquid feed from the bathtub and find that right now in July the carrots need a boost and especially where the thinings have given us nice young fresh pullings. I am afraid with carrots I use pelleted seed and plant one seed every inch and then thin out to three inches spacing f...

Re: Winter Greens Collection
Hi Tigerburnie, Closer together is a big mistake because the 2' x 2' quoted by Monika to me is correct but should be treated as a minimum and not a maximum spacing. The cabbage famiy are a hungry lot and need as little competition as possible. To plant closer puts the plants into direct competition ...

Re: How's your slug tolerance coming along?
To me both of the Guardian articles are totally illogical. Slugs to a gardener are a total menace. To say that they eat decaying matter and when they damage something green because it is probably decaying. Well my hedgerow is full of decaying material so why do they move out of the hedge in search o...

Hi Colin, I would be most interested to know which programme gave out that information. If you can remember which broadcast it was I would be most grateful because quite frankly it was simple wrong. As Tony says that is what happens to the worst of supermarket Tomatoes. The joy of growing your own i...

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
Here we water at dusk and that gives the water time to get to the roots and the plants are very capable of withstanding the rigours of extremely hot weather the following day. We also use irrigation systems and I know that this may not be possible on allotments but rather than rush around with water...

Re: Air Ambulance
I live 25 miles from the nearest A&E and when I had a heart attack I would have been a goner without the Air Ambulance and since then they get a hefty donation every year. I also help financially with the updating and New landing pads. I feel that every penny is well spent. May I urge everybody ...

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
Hi Primrose, My Autumn raspberries are only just showing signs of blossom but my pruning regime veers from the norm. Pruning is normally done in February and we leave one cane on each plant which provides an early crop which I have been picking for a couple of weeks now and when that supply ceases o...

Hi Primrose, People hereabouts people make Pea pod wine and it is a really beautifully light wine and quite potent. With your foxgloves I think you will find that although they do not bloom the first year of their life I think they flower annually thereafter. So get your ball of red wool sorted out ...

Hi Steve,
What I omitted to say that when picking I always have a ball of red wool in my pocket and I tie a wisp of red to the pea selected for seed.

Re: Mangetouts Rodney!
Hi Steve. My advice is to stagger the sowing times but inevitably there will come a time when the mangetout peas will start to fill out and as you say the peas are good to eat and my suggestion would be to leave a proportion of these to mature for seed next year. Generally speaking there are suffici...
