I start mine in those very small pots that you get 40 on a tray. Two seeds per pot then singled if both germinate. Pot on into 4-1/4" then leave in those until first truss in flower.

Planted my Rocket potatoes today. Too windy to build the tunnel cloche over them so just put the sheet back over that I used to warm the bed, hope that's as warm as a cloche. Listening to the lunchtime wind forecast was pretty depressing so I decided I had better get them in.

Sterilised Compost

How sterilised is commercial compost supposed to be? I am using Gem JI2 as a component of most of my mixes with a soil less compost and am getting loads of weed seedlings, I'm convinced they are coming from the JI. I was going to fill in a customer feedback form on their web site but it doesn't work...

I wondered when it would come up, another triumph for the pragmatists in an excellent programme! I was once given a Jehovahs Witness book that was written as a sort of debate, evidence on one hand from say Darwin countered by a quote from something like the Chicago Daily News. This was similar, a qu...

We only watch occasionally as we find him extremely irritating. What's troubling is that he uses such tasteless meat that he has to add an equal weight of herbs and spices to it. He often shows his veg garden but never his 2 acre Rosemary plantation!

Thanks for your good wishes OH - replaced the two sheets of glass as I keep a stock, it was exciting up a ladder though as the wind hadn't dropped as much as I expected. Got the sheets back on the covered beds but haven't dared to go look yet this morning. Sowed peppers, french beans and courgettes ...

Depends on who is advising - suspect what JS knows about veg growing wouldn't fill a programme. As the Irish road directions proverbially say "I wouldn#t start from here" looking at the trailer.

I was supposed to be in there yesterday but I don't like working on staging that keeps moving about. Last evening and night were pretty frightening but only lost two panes of glass from the cold greenhouse, still blowy and raining this morning so don't know how I'll replace them. Temporary cloches o...

I got a sarcastic response last time I responded to this question but what the heck! I believe in substantial fruit cages, could be something to do with being in a windy spot but everybody seems to be getting their dose of gales these days. If you are on your own land and are serious about soft frui...

I'd try some ½ strength general feed and see if that puts a bit of colour in their cheeks.

They mainly look great to me - is that 24 hours light?
The tomatoes might be running out of food - are they in seed compost or multipurpose? Mot sure about the peppers, strange effect.

It was made over 20 years ago from tanalised floorboards and is about due a rebuild. It has a sloping top (0.35->0.50) with two lift out boards on the high side for access...
